What's your true, no BS fuel mileage with that 14? My buddies 14 hemi halfton is doing better fuel mileage on the highway (empty of course) than my 05 Cummins, oh and diesel is currently 10% more expensive than gas at the pump.
I remember the first time I drove my Brother's 90 Cummins 5 speed, it got 30MPG Imperial those days are gone (although they do live on in the imaginations of some).

true no BS is
10mpg pulling a 14k 5th wheel with cruise set at 70mph
16mpg 50/50 mix city/highway no trailer at an average of 80 on the interstate side
I have not done a long enough trip empty for 100% highway yet.
and all figures are hand calculated, they are not from the lieometer

Just how much mileage do you expect at 80 MPH?

Kevin

I never said anything about it one way or another I just stated what it was getting and I am sure if it was 100% interstate driving it would be a little better.
and yes the slower you drive the better it would be to a point.

I ran my 04 3500 single wheel 4x4 auto 100 miles at 75, 65, and 55 MPH empty not towing anything. It also have 4.10 gears. At 75 I got 16.3, 65 was 18.2, and 55 was 21.5 by the overhead. Of course a true test would be to try each MPH running through a full tank and hand calculate the MPG. I too am interested in the capability of the new 6.4 as I am tired of going through transmissions and injectors.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

The first gens were very simple and got great MPGs. If they weren't so old to be restoration candidates they would still be great trucks. Older vehicles just seem to have myriad issues due to age, harder all the time to use as a DD. I have other work to do than to play mechanic every few days on my DD.

I want my fair share
