As Hemi as you can get, the one that started the mythical reputation, owned Nascar in 55 and 56, set Daytona Flying Mile record of 139 mph in 1956, a record that stood until 1960, the first American auto to achieve one hp per ci(355 hp, 354 cubic inch), in spite of what Cheby touted in 1957. Owned every Double A Fuel drag racing record for years. This history is what Chrysler is touting today in their marketing.

Not to put too fine a point on it...but the original Hemi was introduced in 1951.

And the 300 in the pic is a 300b from 1956...the original came out a year earlier.

Am aware of all this, owned the car 29 years,,,however it was the 56 and the 55 where Chrysler truly put the word Hemi in the American automotive lexicon and made its bones.

Of course you being from NC, ground zero for Grand National racing you would know all this too.
