Gas tank still leaks. New filler neck seal is torn...
Gas cap leaks on hard right turns.
Trans dipstick leaks on hard left turns.
Car runs hot when doing hot laps.
Might need to switch from 10w40 to something heavier. Oil light flickered on last run in hard corners. 90 degrees with 88% humidity.
3:23 gears with 235/60r14 = 2500rpm @55mph. It was a long 50 miles to the race.

I'm rusty! Been a long time sense i've raced and it showed. 4 runs, 3 dnfs from missed gates. Had a blast and didn't push the car real hard. Got some stuff to fix before the next one.

Yup, like someone told me when I started autocrossing, "It's like a sea of cones out there".

Sometimes you can't see or figure out which 'wave' in that sea to turn into/along/past/thru. Been there done that at least a few times.

bah so it was a shakedown for both car and the driver the whole point of CAM is to get car guys back to SCCA. Drive it, fix it, drive it, improve it; repeat!

How many were in the CAM class?

2500RPM? I have the same gears, same diameter tire, and i don't have a tach I just kept with the highway traffic;-)

7 cars in cam class today i believe. 6 late model mustangs an lil ole me. Don't see how those cars fit in the class but if they weren't there i'd be racing alone. No fun in that!

It was a good learning experience and a great time. I've had the car for a month and the longest i've driven it was to the event. I'm looking forward to some more seat time and to start chipping away at the list of things that need fixed. It won't make me any faster but it will keep the tech guys happy...lol

Yeah, Mopars weren't designed to go around corners very hard! You'll be finding and fixing leaks for as long as you turn corners. Those cars leak everywhere once you start pulling some G's. Tim and I chased leaks for years on the red Valiant. Whenever the car got faster we would find another leak.

Oil control, oil control lol. I thought I had mine nailed down until I hit a track. Valve covers need good baffles and fresh gaskets too. Power steering cap has to be perfect, rear axle vent needs a remote breather too.

Mopar to the bone!!!

This was very obvious watching the Hotchkis event in Las Vegas this past spring (Mopars At The Strip). It was an open event to all multi make muscle cars. It seemed that the majority of the participants had great cars but few of them had much experience, many cars failed to navigate the cone forest. A lot of cones died that day!

As I kid I thought high score in golf was the point, AutoX is same, right?

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I noticed my PS cap to be on the looser side the night before, so I had put a random O-ring i found underneath the cap gasket. worked well actually.

Buconine -- Gas tank still leaks. New filler neck seal is torn...
Gas cap leaks on hard right turns....

RUN LESS GAS.. MAYBE 1/4 TANK.

Trans dipstick leaks on hard left turns... IF YOU RUN A DEEPER THAN STOCK PAN... GO PACK TO THE STOCK DEPTH PAN.

Car runs hot when doing hot laps.... TURN THE HEATER ON WHILE YOU RUN.

Might need to switch from 10w40 to something heavier. Oil light flickered on last run in hard corners.... YOU MUST, MUST, MUST HAVE, AT LEAST, HORIZONTAL WELDED BAFFELS IN THE SUMP.... OR INSTALL THE MILODON PAN. THE STOCK PANS ARE SHAMEFUL WITHOUT ANY BAFFELS.... SPUN BEARINGS WAITING TO HAPPEN!

THE BEST DRIVERS IN AX WALK AND MEMORIZE THE PYLON COURSE... THEY KNOW EXCATLY WHERE THEY'LL BE LONG BEFORE THEY GET THERE.... FROM THE STARTING LINE. MEMORIZATION IS A KEY FACTOR FOR LOWER TIMES.

So running a stock oil pan 340 on a road course with only the factory windage tray is a bad idea huh?!

Gotta start somewhere.

I did my first autocross at Monster Mopar a couple years ago, and I gladly accepted help from an assistant there, who rode with me the first time around the course.
Thank goodness he did, as I knew nothing about autocrossing. First thing I asked was why the cones were laying down like that. LOL.

It was fun though!

Big Willow Springs has more long gradual corners. I ran there a few times without I direct issue. BUT I had Dr Bob drive/instruct the car once (ran road race cars at national competitive level) he sucked the pan dry in two laps. The hydraulic lifters clattered, oil foamed, and I waited about an hour for things to settled down. I think Jim Lusk was there.

Two years later #6 rod bearing started to thud. And then I starting complaining to the owner of Milodon who is in our car club about the lack of a small block mopar road race pan.

Tighter tracks can be more of an issue.

As always, Mopar Mitch chimed in with helpful tips.

I'm thinking of taking the Charger to an even once I get a few things sorted out. Threads like this are quite helpful.

I believe Autoxcuda had some influence in that. However, compared to the other oil pans (like the street/strip) it is pretty expensive. Somewhere around $350-400+ depending on the vendor.

Rylispro -- stock 340 pan... is the exact same as a 318 pan.... the pan itself has NO oil control baffels. The factory 340 windage tray only helps for hi-rpm windage.... again, there is NO baffeling in the factory stock pans (toooo bad Ma-Mopar never added them). Continued G-forces from cornering, acceleration/deceleration will absolutely uncover the pick-up and starve the bearings, lifters, etc... eventually waisting the engine.

At least the factory 440-6 pack pan (and Hemi pan) had acceleration/deceleration baffels.

Thanks for the heads up Mitch!
May be the perfect time to pull the pan and weld in a 1/8 npt bung for oil temp, might as well get some baffles welded into the sump area. My only dilemma is to get the pan to seal up. I could never get the pan to seal under the car as well as I can when the engine is on a stand.
