I'm getting ready to install a new water valve for my 71 with a 383 2 barrel.
Does anyone have pictures or infor showing the correct way to mount and install it.
Thanks in advance for any help!

The 70-71 parts catalog shows the water valve for 1970 ebody changed part numbers in 1971 and has certainly gone under a few supercessions since then to the most current units. I think the valves are all the same just with new part numbers stamped onto the body over the years.

The NOS valves had this cad plated bracket (seen below - now available from Bill Rolik) already attached and with two cad plated mounting screws, & were sold as an assembly. The screws difered over the years and over suppliers. When I got my NOS valve the bracket was not included. Thanks Bill!

Here is an excellent reference photo. The valve simply mounts to the bracket with two cad plated screws, normally included with NOS valve.

The bracket itself, is mounted to the inner fender with what I would guess is a volt reg/anchor head style firewall attaching bolt. Let's ask DW.

Also seen are the two special clips and screw?that attach to the valve bracket. One clip is used to retain the a/c steel line. I have one of these. The other clip is used to secure the blue low pressure cutoff switch wire as it passes along the inner fender. This and the fastener I do not have a would like to find a source for new. How about it DW. Any help on finding a source?

The cable in 1970 passes through the firewall on either the LH or RH side. All '71's may pass through the RH. Check the grommet under the blower motor for two holes or check the RH side of the firewall for an extra hole.

The cable is the secured to the valve with these clips. The self adjusting clip is missing/not yet installed/never was one on the Challenger above. The 1970 service manual goes into detail on how the cable is best installed.

Are the 70 and 71 brackets different?
70 - 3441034 - with bracket
71-72 - 3441884 - with bracket
72-74 - 3502346 - without bracket
After July 73 - 3502723 - with bracket (not listed in 74 parts book).

My limited research this past weeks, one fact was consistent - all 383/440 E bodys that had a power brake booster, the heater cable exits out of the RH end of the firewall, like in the above pic.

DW (ECS) has the only other car I've seen yet besides my own that the heater cable exits out of the LH side under the blower motor, both are non-power manual brake is all I have concluded so far. The firewall on my '70 does not have a heater cable hole seen in pic below.

I think the hole you have circled is for the Christmas tree fastener for the dash insulation.

Snoopy,
The cable on my former 70 challenger 340 the cable had an insulated rubber tube that the cable used to pass thru the insulation/firewall that replaced the plastic christmas tree

Wow guys! Thanks for all the imformation.
It looks like the brackets that I bought are no where near what is correct.
Can anyone give me a number on how to contact Bill Rolik so I can get the right bracket?

Thanks again for all the help!

Update:
I found the info for Bill and will order the bracket along with some other parts today.
But I still need the clips/holddown and screw that ebodyseast mentioned in one of the above post and picture.
Anyone know where I can get these.
I added a picture of the car so far.
Thanks again for the help.

Nice conv Dustya440! She's gonna b sweet brother. I see it has a brake booster...so does your conv have a hole in the RH firewall and does the cable exit there? Best of luck, glad to b of assistsance.

Snoopy, the firewall pic I posted above was created by someone else. Just using it here for reference purposes. Again, my '70 does not have this hole - so it can't be an insulation retainer hole. The heater cable passes through here on mosts E Bodys I've seen and owned in the past.

The wire retaining clip for the blue wire may be the same clip used on the back of a Mopar alternator?

The pan head screw used to secure them will be easy enough to find in my Mopar used screw collection...

Another topic of interest here includes the overall length of the E Body heater cables from 1970-74.

'70-71 parts catalog states there are two cables used in '70. One is 71" and the other is 74". Maybe a misprint? Anyone have or seen a 74" cable? The original cable in my '70 is 71" to help in finding out.

For '71 E Body a new 71" cable is listed & with a new part number. Most NOS 71" cables I've seen are this particular one. Did the cable length or part number change again anytime between 1972-74 or did it stay the same?

Keep 'em comin Dustya440!

The firewall is from a non-a/c 4-speed 70 Cuda.

I think Bill is correct about the insulated rubber tube that replaces the Christmas tree fastener.
