I am about to install an external transmission cooler on my 68 charger big block with 727 torqueflight. Does any one know if the fluid return line on the transmission is the line the line that connects to the more front part of the transmission or more rear part of the transmission?
Thanks,
Jason

Pressure is the front and return is the rear port.

add the cooler after the raditor. that way rad does most of the cooling and than cooler finishes it off. make sure a flow of air to cooler

What kinda cooler did you get. The B&M stacked plate super coolers are the best (or a similar design). Much more efficient than the copper tube type and aluminum fins.

I asked the TransGo cooler guys. They said skip the radiator alltogether. Said its cooler without. Thats what I did. Just passing it along...

people have opinionated that the rad ccoler is needed to heat the trans fluid in cold weather but I am with the transgo people & use an auxialliary one only(a large one)& keep the trans fluid/coolant totally seperated.

I did it this way on my '63 mercury as well with the B&M Race cooler and a gauge on the tranny pan for temps. Barely ever got past 150 deg, with a 3000 stall converter and 3.0 rear gears would maybe hit 180 after climibing a 1000ft hill over the course of 2 miles at 55 - 60 mph

I got the B&M stacked plate super cooler. I installed it so that the fluid runs through the radiator first. I didn't install a temp gauge and don't know if I will. I have a 2000-2200 stall converter. Hopefully, the fluid will stay cool.

We skip the rad and just use the cooler for race only applications.
