Actually you really need a GLIDE!!!
900 HP at 3100 lbs, I would look at at a Proflyte
Mine is just at 3000# plus 900+ hp. and has a GLIDE.. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif)
Me likes it.. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh2.gif)
Best thing I ever did was to trade my $4000.00+ Pro Trans Super Duper Torqueflight back to Dave Smith for a Mikes Glide..
That was back in 1994.. The results were immediate.. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)
You will notice the Pro Trans is covered up.. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/1343795-scratchchin.gif)
3rd race with the Glide and got a Wally.. Wound up #2 in Division 5.. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eeek.gif)
And I'm not bashing Pro Trans at all.. Best T/F builders in the business.. Dave is the absolute best..
The Glide has just worked better for me..

Should have bought a glide
Like you said... "kicking and screaming"
Ask Dave Hall how well his Mikes Glide worked for him. It broke in less than 10 passes. Nothing is bullet proof.

300M is the type of steel. Tensile strength, properly heat treated, is 300,000psi.
"300M is a low alloy, vacuum melted, steel of very high strength. Essentially it is a modified AISI 4340 steel with silicon, vanadium and slightly more carbon and molybdenum. 300M has a very good combination of strength at 1930–2100 MPa (280-305 ksi), toughness, fatigue strength and good ductility. It is a through hardening alloy."

You were almost there Monte. That 300m output shaft would have been cheaper then that whole Chevy trans.
Had enough in that damn 727 to have built 3 good glides.........Plus, couldn't get the converter I wanted, brakes were slow, clean neutral was an issue, hated the blanket, plus it was freaking HEAVY. I FINALLY snapped out of it........LOL!!!
