I currently am using Passon Perf lube for my 18 spline. It is red like ATF. I might switch back to the old Stalube 85-90 GL-4 gear oil.

And some of us who tried both prefer synthetics even though the 833 gurus recommend against it.

My vote is for Jamie Passon's elixr. Call him up!! I tried Pennzoil Synchromesh and soon regretted it. I was out rowin 4 Monday morning and loving every minute of it!

What's different about the syncros in an 833 from those in a T-56?
Tremec told me to run ATF3 in my T-56

The 833 is traditional brass ring, single friction surface. The brass rings have grooves in them to ride on the cones of the speed gears and the rings cut through the oil film and speed match the gear when selected to. The T56 uses a a fiber type friction material on everything except reverse. Similar in appearence/theory of operation to the clutch plate friction material in an automatic transmission. The thin ATF flows better and the friction material pushes it out the way when selected to.

Isn't the factory service manual the authority on this? Here is what the FSM says for 4-speed transmissions:
"During cold weather, if shift effort becomes extremely high, transmission should be drained and refilled with Multi-Purpose Gear Lubricant SAE 80 or SAE 90, as defined by MIL-L-2105B or with automatic transmission fluid types labeled "Dexron Automatic Transmission Fluid or Chrysler Automatic Transmission Fluid AQ-ATF-2848A" available under Part Number 1843314. Automatic transmission Fluid should be replaced with Multi-Purpose Gear Lubricant SAE 140 in warm weather. NO OTHER LUBRICANTS SHOULD BE USED."
SAE Gear Oil 140 IS NOT EQUIVALENT in viscosity to SAE Engine Oil 140.
But SAE Gear Oil 90 IS EQUIVALENT in viscosity to SAE Engine Oil 50 according to this chart:
