Well, I got the timing chain off today and I about crapped my pants! It was so wore out that I could almost touch the two sides together! A twenty year old truck still sportin the original timing chain right down to the nylon gear (still intact no less). I ran out of time today getting it back together so I don't know if it has cured my problem, but I'm sure it will run a hell of a lot better. There's no vacuum leaks, the computer is under the fender, and it's been running like this since I got the truck two years ago, but it's been getting worse in the last few months. It just kills me that my beloved mopar truck has no power, so it's time to do something about it. I'll let you know tomorrow how it runs.

I certainly hope so. I've just been really disappointed in the old truck lately. About the ignition conversion, has anyone here done that? Can I get the parts I need, like the dist., and module, and wireing harness, at a junk yard? Or should I buy the Mopar Performance Conversion kit?

I have bought salvage yard parts with good sucess on the slant sixes at least....and cheap too!
I bought everything needed for 30 dollars...at a pull it yourself type yard. At least ya can get all ya need that way...and even if the dist needs a rebuild, it costs less than core charge!

Lots of stuff to choose from here...one example is I had my choice of about 20 distributors....still in the engines, in the cars.
Pick-n-choose......

I could spend days at wrecking yards looking for parts. Every car or truck has a story to tell. I'am lucky I have 3 within in 20 miles to search through.Good way to kill a couple of hours.

My problem in this area is that most of the yards around here are crushing anything over ten years old. And the ones that aren't crushing don't have what I need. There is one that has 4 rams, but they are early 80's trucks so they won't have a precomputer dist. and none of them have the interior panels I need to finish my interior. Hey, you guys gonna share some of that popcorn?

Thanks pokey, 3 of my favorites! popcorn, bananas, and burning rubber! some of these other guys could probably make a killing selling parts to us poor unfortunate souls who don't have a decent junk yard near by. So, how 'bout it guys? Can ya hook a brother up?

Thanks for the tips jwyatt. Would be great if I had $150! Got my timing chain replaced over the weekend but now the blasted truck won't start. There is no way I could have got it back together 180 out because I never turned anything after I took the gears off and the new parts went back on in the same positions. I'm wondering if it might be carb related. It's always run kind of rich and it actually seems kind of flooded. Any ideas? hmm, that's good popcorn!

Ok Pokey, have had ya in mind...no luck yet, If ya'll do want me to look around for anything, really don't hesitate to ask, I make frequent trips to the local yards, and wouldn't want to make a killin...just want to help fellow Moparts members!!!....It is my hobby too! I know of at least 30 trucks for parts....anywhere from 74-92

love that popcorn!!!

Well, it cranks over fine, does pop and spray alittle out the carb. When it does start, it's bearly running with my foot on the floor. Changeing a timing chain shouldn't be this difficult! Hey Goat, if you could check on a distributor and ignition system so I can eliminate my computer, that would be great!
