I can tell you that with a few right bolt ons...cam, intake, fresh heads, 10"/11" converters, etc...

A 78 untouched short bock went 12.30's @ 110 at 4200#

A 76 untouched short block went 11.70's @ 114 at 3400#

Can we get more details on the '76?

You would be better asking about the 78... if you
use the standard of ET per weight the 78 makes more
power than the 76... 800# for .6 et... and to me the
short block always included the cam... so basically
he used the crank, rods and pistons in that block

The 78 was yanked from a wrecked 60K mile Monaco. You're right P-man, I should have said LESS CAM...LOL.

To it was added a MP .484 stick, redone 915 heads, (OE valve sizes), Eddy Torker, 850 TQ, recurved dizzy, small tube headers (1 3/4"?) 11" hemi converter, 4.56's in a all OE 65 Belvedere Wagon. Best of 12.32 @ 110 open headers on 9" x 28" slicks,

The 76 was found sitting idle in a 76 3/4 pu that had an been t-boned and rolled in 1980.

MP .557 cam, redone 452 heads (2.14/1.81, home ported to MP templates), Holly SD intake, Holley 750 DP, MP elec dizzy, 2" Pro Parts headers, 4.30 gears, 10 x 28" McReary tires in a all OE 72 Duster, with full exhaust.

The '78 setup is very similar to the motor in my '63. Little less gear but less weight. Need to get it to the track...

The reason I asked specifically about the '76 is because mine is a stock shortblock '76 motor.

This truck actually runs pretty good. I had it on the scope and its firing well on all 8. I know the edelbrock carb doesnt breathe like a thermoquad. I have seen the difference of the two on the dyno on my other 440. It could have worn cam lobes or the jetting could be bad to. It does start well. It fired right up in -27c no prob.
