Friends, I have some questions about restoring my alternator at home.
1) How to remove the pulley, it is pressed? The use of a pulley puller is correct? No need to use heat on the pulley?
2) How do I even leave the housing of the alternator with "as new" appearance without sandblasting (because aluminum is wearing and matte) and cleaning products that do not think outside of the U.S..
Is there any method which let homemade aluminum as new and do not leave it dark?
3) Are the pulley and screws zinc plated?

There is a puller designed especially for removing the pulley, you should not need heat.

You can try blasting with soda or corn starch, it is easier on aluminum than other materials.



3) Are the pulley and screws zinc plated?

No, they are painted black, the grooves of the pulley were the belt rides was typically left bare steel.

Measure the pulley's location on the shaft. This will help get it back in proper position so the belts will line up when installed. To reinstall the pulley, I put the pulley directly on a 100 watt light bulb. In about five minuets it will be so hot you will need an oven mitt to pick it up and slide it back on the shaft. The pulley will cool off and be firmly on the shaft. The light bulb will not over heat the pulley like outer means of heat(I.E. open flame)can. Also There are different pulley hole sizes for different alternator shaft sizes.

What a creative idea on heating up a pulley!

Whent a friend who tried to withdraw the pulley with a pulley puller without success.
I do not know if the alternator shaft is thinner than the shaft of the drawer, the fact is that the pulley does not move, coming to feather the edge of the pulley (the appropriate part to install the puller).
Now I need to pull apart the pulley, and straighten it's edge.

The only puller to use draws on the flange in front of the pulley itself. The one I use has two halves like the one posted. The halves go over the flange and pull on it. The pulley itself is not strong enough to pull on without bending.

Don't use ANYTHING that looks like this, it will ruin/bend your pulley!

I know this ...... the worst way.
Now I'm afraid that I'll need another double pulley.

The correct puller is cheap. I bought one at a local parts store.
