Looking at a '54 Dodge truck. Does not need much body work. Looking to do a hot streetable truck. Any thoughts on bolting a 318 or 360? Any direct rear end swaps? Do I need to box the frame for strength? This is my first truck/hot rod project. I have several street and drag cars so I know my way around the performance end. This would be my first project if this type. Thanks

The "C" channel frame is not real strong. A lot of guys(including me) use a Dakota frame. This gets you a better frame, brakes, and suspension. If you go this route, a v8 becomes easy.

I used a Dakota front clip on my 55 truck. I boxed the frame. I put a Gen III Hemiin mine. I also used a triangulated four link in the rear.
