Get out your elementary school protractor and check the angle of the male taper...if it is 45* it is SAE and if it is 37* it is AN and JIC. For consistency it is probably SAE, not AN/JIC

One last question and I'll end the hijack.

Original A727 cooler lines use these fittings from the line to the tranny/radiator-->
-AN5 (1/2-20) Male to 1/8 NPT Male, yes?

Here's the fitting.
It's a 45.

So, it's an SAE 1/2-20 Male to a 1/8 NPT Male.
Have I got it?

You take the original fitting off and screw the NPT to AN fitting into the pump body in its place.

I just want to make sure I got you right.
Take a look at the picture, your saying I can remove the fitting that the arrow if pointing to in the pic?

And that will give me an opening to screw my 3/8pipe - -6AN adapter into?

I've had the hard line off and had a wrench on the fitting a couple times, and it does not want to budge. Just want to make sure that this fitting is removable before I break anything by twisting too hard on it.

It almost seems that I'm bending the body of the fuel pump, or getting ready to break the fitting off, it just doesn't want to move.

That fitting may have been furnace brazed at the factory into the body of the pump. I would go to your local auto parts dealer and have them pull a new pump off the shelf that fits your application. Look at the pump and the "out" fitting carefully, if you can see that it comes apart then you know that the replacement pump would accept a fitting like I said. At this point you can decide if you want to replace your old pump with a new one or buy an adapter fitting to go from AN male to male flare and bridge the gap. Good luck

that inverted 5/16 flare nut does not remove from that fuel pump

what you want is a male 5/16" inverted flare x -6AN or JIC fitting.

that will screw in to the inverted flare nut that's on the fuel pump, then the -6AN/JIC fitting will screw to the fitting on the pump.

the HP pumps have the 3/8" NPT ports to take the 3/8" NPT x -6AN/JIC those fitting can be removed from the fuel pump.

I have to apologize...I misled you with the fitting on the pump. The last mechanical fuel pump I played with was a Hemi high performance pump that I put on my 440 in the '64 Polara. It was an expensive and totally unnecessary change from a stock 440 pump. The pump produced too much pressure and volume for the Edelbrock carb and created flooding issues. Shot myself in the foot with that. Anyway, the pump body was held together with many screws and you could rotate the bottom half to allow the feed and exit ports to better align with the hoses. That pump had tapped NPT holes for the fittings to screw in, so I was thinking of that and related it to a mild 318 stock pump. And then I walked out and looked at the pump on the 318 in my D100

Don't worry about it. I should have taken the time to try to remove that fitting from the pump before I ordered parts. Then I would have known exactly what I needed.
But as it is, I ordered a premade hose "kit" for carb to pump. I came with a 90degree 3/8npt to -6AN for the pump end. So guess I'll just return that premade hose, and order the exact fittings I need and a short length of hose, now that I have a better idea what exactly I need.
