Thanks guys! I must have a freakin hole in my head for taking on this project but we need a water truck for fire suppression at our other house. We all know how much of a pain new stuff can be so I figured it would be better if I could fend for myself when something on the truck needs to be fixed. For comparison I can buy a Kodiak with a water tank and pump for around 10k so that is my five year budget. I think we are going to try to get a split PTO for the t-case for a winch / H20 pump combo. I'll probably need a few before this is done.

She is a little rough around the edges but still restorable.
That condition would be, "drop dead mint" here in PA where those things are rust buckets. Just saw a 68 or 69 W500 in a junkyard yesterday!

I hear you, that is the main reason I moved West. Did that truck have a steering wheel? I need a minty steering wheel. Also pedal rubber and a gas pedal. Geez here I go again another giant project lol.
I was thinking today and it sure is strange that Dodge put the same steering box in the W500 as the W100.

Good info thank you sir. I am going to need to look at the steering box because it is VERY loose. The brake and clutch pedals have no pressure but that should be pretty straight forward to repair. The second owner that I bought it from picked this truck up from the ODOT sale in Portland in 1968. It was originally a plow truck with a dump box. When the boys go it back to Klamath Co. they installed a backhoe on the back to clean out the ditch. Talk about a hard life! The good news is that the backhoe is on a 1972 W600 in the same barn! Hopefully the owner was serious when he said we would have first dibs. Sorry for getting on a bit of a ramble there. Is there any source for medium sized truck parts like this? I assume the differentials and t-case would be used in other applications. Thank you again!
