I do not doubt that a Cometic Coated Steel-Shim gasket will seal well. I am more wondering if the raised ridges of the gasket will wear the head over time? Also with a .039 Fel-Pro I will have .056 quench .027 Cometic-------------..044```` This on a street driven, boosted 440. Don`t know if its even with the effort???? Opinions????

The Cometics don't seem to groove the aluminium heads like the heavy fire ring on the composite gaskets.
My experience also.

Nothing but good experiences with Cometic gaskets in my engines.
My last engine did not have the deck surface of the block machined and the gaskets sealed with no problem for 6 years with Indy heads.
Would recommend for used in most engines.

As long as your deck surfaces weren't cut on an old or dull rotary broach, or any type of cutter that leaves a rough surface, then you should be OK.

Never run Cometics but I think you'll need a special finish put on the deck/heads in order for them to seal properly. If your stuff is already finish machined then it could be pretty costly to use them.
If you feel your deck finish is too rough, use a good coating of Alumispray or Copperspray from Permatex, allow to get tacky then install.

Yes, I would copper coat as a precaution. And yes I understand that 50,000 people put them together dry and they don't leak but if I don't use copper coat it might seep.

I always spray mine. Spray in between the layers too.

We cut all but one rivit off and spray all sides when using multiple times.Caution must be taken to see if any of the rivits interfere between the head and deck.

You guys have no problems reusing them after copper coating the layers on the first use?
Nope. When I reuse them, I just clean them off w/ gas or some type of solvent, then respray and install.
Like Bob said, make sure the rivets aren't in b/t the head and the block...the ones on my wedge motor were and had to remove them.
