I've got a 1970 340 with Eddy heads. The alternator bracket wasn't original so I ordered the correct bracket, bolt and two spacers. When I tried to install it, the back of the alternator touches the head. Is this common when using Eddy heads with a stock alternator and bracketry?

thanks,
Karl

What is the solution? Is there a bracket from another year that will give the necessary clearance from the block?

Are you using a round back style alternator? It allows a little more clearance & will usually fit, if that doesn't give you enough clearance there are kits to mount the Nippondenso Alternator...

thanks for the info. I'll check tonight if I have a round back alternator. I'd prefer to go the roundback alternator route as I've already purchased the correct bracket/hardware for a 1970.

I have the same issue using my stock '69 brackets:

The stock brackets line the alternator up perfectly with the water pump pulley but the back of the alternator hits the head.
