Cudazappa -- I'm 99% sure that the big Magnum GT was available one-year only with the 15x8 rims.. a friend of mine owned one with the 8" rims as standard eqpmnt with his package (he ordered it brand new)... again.. one year only.

This is the last pure stocker I built. It was built to rules close to what you're talking about. It was a very competitive car in the class. The only way it wouldn't be competitive is if the class allows Camaros then of course the Camaro's low weight, advantageous engine set back will win the day. This car with a full 10 gallon fuel cell and my 250lb but in the seat would cross the scales @ 3450lb.

It was powered by a 360 with magnum exhaust manifolds, E-58 4bbl intake with a class required Rochester 350cfm 2bbl carb and E-58 (.444 lift cam) The transmission was a 727 Torqueflite with a large cooler and deep pan. The rear end was a 9 1/4 with 3.55 gears and welded spider gears. Ran the car in second gear and would turn 6,000rpm at the end of the straights on a 3/8 mile high banked asphalt track. The suspension consisted of MP XHD leaf springs, California Suspension Late B-Body 1.03" torsion bars, factory big block front sway bar with matching rear sway bar. Shocks were from AFCO. The rubber mounts for the k-frame bushings were replaced solid ones as well as solid mounting the torsion bar anchor cross member. Stock brakes with Yellow Stuff pads.

It's strongest feature was it's superior handling. The forward bite from the center of the corner off was amazing for a car running on recapped Good Year Eagle tires (class requirement, Towel City Recaps)

Anything was possible w/Dodge in the 70's. Not to argue, but it would be a one-of or just a mistake on the line (Good Lord knows that never happened.. ) I know of a slant 6 Magnum built just to suit a long time slant 6 B body customer. 15x7's were Magnum GT's, 8's the F bodies. Nobody knows why this happened. Most agree it should've been the other way around. Heck, it could've been a late day/year build as I ordered a 78 last day you could, didn't get my GT radials. So, according to the data book I have which is what was used to order/spec a car, 15x7's were it.

IndyGuy is right, although I'd hate to see a late B get sacrificed to the race gods, they do make good handlers. And there's plenty out there to be had, believe it or not. I can hook you up if necessary.

The GM cars can`t have leaf springs most will run monte-carlo or caprice. They cant run nova`s or Camaro's. I think a cordoba my be the way I go because there are some body parts around for wreck repair. I can only run 7 inch wheels and must be steel, also can`t run headers. I am thinking a magnum 360 with one of my old 4 speeds.

OK... maybe the rims were 7" but.. they should've been 8"

On the car, they're hard to distinguish. And it's quite possible they did come on it.

I raced a couple of Cordobas and a Magnum thru the 1990s. The car in this video is actually a 1977 Cordoba. Cordoba sheet metal was trashed after two seasons so I bolted on 71 Satellite(rotted parts car) fenders, quarters, trunk lid and Hood and front bumper. The door panels are 78 Magnum, the rear bumper is still the original Cordoba. Engine was a Mopar Performance Super Commando 360/360HP crate engine with the intake switched to a cast iron TQ style with a Holley 4412 500cfm, Stock exhaust manifolds, Hamburger oil pan with trap doors and baffles, 1.20 torsion bars, Mopar perf frt sway bar, Flexi-flyer leaf springs w/ lowering blocks. Replaced rubber k frame isolators and torsion bar crossmember isolators with solid. trans was a stock 904 style that came with the car. rear end had 2.45 ratio and was raced in first gear rpm about 5500.
