I have always used the ATF and now the ATF+4. Since I worked at a Dodge dealer for 24 years and did trans work I had a good supply of it and still have alot of ATF+4. It works fine for me and is free for me. Ron

I'm not a tranny pro, but as I understand it, common wisdom is that ATF+4 and most other newer formulations are formulated to offer less friction, and more slip because most people don't want to feel the shift in their new car AT's. They do, however resist heat a little better than the older fluids, and one would think they may last longer without breaking down. Type F is an older formulation that has been around a long time, and generally offers more friction; i.e.: less slip at the clutches during a shift. Many racers and performance minded guys like the Type F because of this.

Exactly!!

FWIW.....I used the store brand Dexron III from a local Grocery/dept store (Meijers) in TWO 20 year old daily drivers that have over 200k+ miles EACH. Did the refresh with said fluid at the 100K timeframe and both still look good!

A friend mentioned........That there's a federal standard that all ATF and motor oil (and probably gearoil too) have to be compliant to so that in a "time of war" they can scavenge the supplies from all stores and ship them out to be used by the military.
