Ron you are right. My thinking is getting bad.As for a SD on a heavy car my kids 62 300 weighs a ton.The SD on the 413 runs great. The SD gets pretty much the most HP and has great street manners.Rocky

You need a Streetmaster 440! I'm going to try it on my '69 300 (unless something BETTER falls into my lap). It's supposed to be great for mileage, torque, and street manners.

I have two 440 aluminum intakes and am getting rid of one of them. I have a Holley Street Dominator and an Edelbrock Performer 440. I will keep the one that would be most streetable and give me the best mileage. It will be used on a stock 440- not interested in hp, just the most "docile" of the two.
I can tell you now,my bone stock 78 440 came with the stock cast iron spredbore intake with a thermobog carb.
i swaped on a weiand action plus..results = not much better than the stock intake, ran out of steam at the 4800 rpm mark.
I swaped on a edelbrock perfromer RPM intake, used an adaptor to bolt a edelbrock1905 q-jet on it. results = it is has a slight bog when the 2ndarys kick in but then it makes killer torque all the way past 5500 rpm, woke it right up and hands down is the best intake for HP/Torque...the adaptor and spredbore carb on the square flange seems to be the issue with my bog or the intake is a little to much for a bone stock RV 440,IMHO.
I have a holley street dominator, low rise/open plenum/spredbore intake going on next, i think the SD will perform much better and I should be able to tune the bog out with no adaptor/square flange choking it down.
if the BB holley street dom intake is anything like the SB holley street dom, it will be just right on a stock 440.
after all the holley street dominator intake were designed to replace a 2-v carb/intake on stock engine running stock lopo cams.
for a low rise single plane it works rather well. almost like a duel plane but more WOT flow.
i can tell you this also, i went from a flat 10 mpg with the stock intake, weiand intake with a edelbrock 1405 carb/holley 650 spredbore carb to getting 15 mpg on hwy and 12.5 around town in my 88 swb truck with 727-3.23 gears with the edelbrock q-jet/adaptor/RPM intake.
if you want lopo stock 440 performance use the performer intake with a 600 edelbrock carb.
if you want a little more HP/torque/mpg run the holley street dominator intake with a good spredbore thermobg or q-jet.
