Just thought I'd post results of a couple shakedown runs last weekend on new combo using Out-of-the-Box Victor MW heads. Was looking for combo results like this a while back but didn't seem to find a lot on these heads out of the box. I was tempted to do at least a little clean up on 'em with a sanding roll but, wanted to see true ootb results.

440/511 4.25 stroke. Flat tops .010 in the holes. 13-1
Victor MW heads (77949) No port work, no clean up, no surfacing or valve job. Did check valve contact and clearance for pushrods. Chambers ccd right at 70.
Solid roller 274/280@.050 .674/.674 lift w/1.6 HS rockers.
Super Victor intake & 1050 2 circ. 35 deg timing.
Hooker Super Comp 2.125 - race bullets
727 footbrake
8 inch ATI converter
Caltracs
4.10 Dana

3800lb with me in it.

10.44@128 1.473 60ft shifting around 7400, I kinda wanna bring it down to 7k or less

Still got some things to do but was pretty happy.

Thats a nice start, but I am betting there is much more in it. I did best shifting a 499 with unported 440-1 heads at 6800, my 528 cube motor with those same heads ported flowing 380 with a .775 lift roller (283/296/110)I shift at 7100. I am betting your combo may like 7,000 better than 7400.

It was the last hit before eliminations 1:45?. I didn't end up running first round as I was fighting that trans leak and header gasket went. I figured I'd cut my losses and save for next time. Had a fun time.

Yeah, had the shift lite set at 6900 and saw it come on but was still pullin. Figured I better shift someday. I need to abide by the light but like to defy authority Will try lower rpm shifts next time

What size tire and what rpm were you going through the traps at?

Tires are 29/10.5w-15 and according to the playback tach trapped 6700 on that pass.

Are these the new style chamber, or the older style? ( what is the date of manufacter?)

Depending on which one it is, you might be surprised at what you are leaving on the table with those OOTB.

Not sure which ones they are exactly. Purchased new last December. The boxes show "Lot Date" of 10/04/2012. Where is the date code on the head? I hear ya on leaving some on the table, just had to do it so I know plus, I didn't want to get greedy Maybe have something to look forward to later on...Was shooting for mid/low 10s with this combo so in the ballpark...

Sounds like a MEAN combo !

I think your shift point is WAY too high .

With that cam and big cubes... Try shifting at 6500 . I bet you a cheeseburger it goes at least a tenth faster

Victor MW heads (77949) No port work, no clean up, no surfacing or valve job. Did check valve contact and clearance for pushrods. Chambers ccd right at 70.
Solid roller 274/280@.050 .674/.674 lift w/1.6 HS rockers.

Your combo is very close to mine. Looks like you have a bit more cam. My heads were ported to MW size and have been cleaned up and had a good valve job. My Indy 440-2 intake also had some plenum work and was matched to the heads. I have 4.56s with a 10.5w x 31 tire. It weighs over 3500# with the driver and has gone 10.15 at almost 131 mph. This was with 32* of timing and it needs more jet. It has had a 60' of 1.386. I think Jim shifted at 6700. You have more left in it and it is just a matter of time before you find it!! Good luck!!

70cc's out of the box. I thought they where supposed to be 75cc?

I thought so too. I "carefully" filled a few different chambers using a 100cc graduated cylinder, starting with 100cc then subtracting what's left in the cylinder. I'm sure pro head/engine guys use a burette. I imagine I could be a little off...

1. Your Lot Date is definitely the later production w/ the smaller chamber (advertised 72 cc) and more restrictive ports.

2. Yes, you're leaving a lot on the table by having run them as true OOB heads. Porting, chamber work & valve job are all areas for improvement.

Me, I can't run ANYTHING OOB... but my junk's never together to run much, either.
