if you have ever watched a stick only class run down the track ,,car after car ,,like say 12 or more cars..... it would never have to be explained... if your looking for a real authentic nostalgic week end,,,it would be incomplete with out gear bangers; just offer the class then let who ever shows up run in it,,, im in either way...though.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCCPeq_b3nU

3000 spectators,
I will believe this when I see it..
If you know Michael Beard, then you know it's possible. He did start promoting this race last year, knowing that he could pull in a lot of the racers if he gave them a date to aim for. He's gotten rsvp from all over the country and Canada. He's also going to have both IHRA (Crate Motor) and NHRA classes running. Should be a good show. Bob, if you're looking for advice, like many said, if you don't have the dates yet it'll be a bit difficult. I do think your word alone will be the draw for some racers, but many are already making plans for next season, so you best hustle. Will the NSS be '73 and older, or all of the racing?

I'am going to put this out for serious responses and hope it is taken in the same manner. Would there be any interest or support for a new 3 race series similar to the old Super Car Shootouts? This would be mainly a all mopar race weekend with the exception of an all brand NSS class limited to cars built before 1973.
I assume this means only the NSS class.

If this going to happen,we certainly are going to do it right and get all our "ducks" in a row and certainly are not going to just throw something together. My main question was to get honest opinions of everyones thoughts of the basic idea for a 3 race series,at 3 different tracks and allowing other brands in NSS. We attend many events and see what works and what doesn't.We know the people to talk to get advise and backing from.We want to here from the racers who may attend these events and their thoughts on the basic format we proposed. We applaud those racers than can draw attendence and those who promote events but see the only large successful events being the Mopar Nationals and Monster Mopar at Norwalk. The Mopar Nationals is a great event but does little for the racers. As far as any race at Norwalk it will always be well recieved, just based on the location and how the track is run,it is a outstanding facility. For this to happen,we need racers imput and thoughts since racing will be the "main event".Swap meet, car shows and other activities will be given their due respect, but the focus will be on the race.We will leave the big swap, venders and shows for events like Mopar Nat's. Respect to all, Bob

could you have a class, say over 60 drivers with say 8.40 index and red and white checkers and flames paint schemes? If not you know you can still count on my full support.
First we had "Special Kay" now we have "Special Larry". We may not have a special class for your specifications but will reserve you a special spot in the "winners circle"

Yeah I know it would cost something to get them there, but When trying to put butts in the seats, those two things would do that !, if a promoter does his job well, sponsors would be the biggest help in that area!! might be a win win and great start to a new series for both ?? just a thought !!

I agree that spectators are a key to helping the event make money but with out a varity of race cars, classes, and racers and special exhibition or match races there would be no event to draw spectators. Have an event and give fans a reason to come and the event will be a success. The key is to try and keep a Mopar series alive and attract more racres and fans with the added brands for part of the event and some exhibition to bring people to the stands. Swap meets, car shows, and crusies are easy and not very costly to put on,the racing events take the most planning and are the most costly. This site is more geared to the racers and any event we would want to do would built around racing. We have tons of shows and other events everywhere, racing events, especially for certain brands is dying.

I think this would work! Since the demise of the classic series's and monster mopar having things to work on, the racers I believe are looking for a series to get back into. I know you have a good handle on what needs to be done in order to make a successful series Bob and I think seeing things from a racers side and not only a promoters perspective gives you an advantage on what all the participants would like to see. I would say get in touch with local car clubs where the events will be and work the show cars in along with the swap people as well as other promoters that have put these on and this series should work good Good luck!!
416 stroker from Nick at Compu-flow. 11.14 in full street trim. Seems like a new best every time out. 11.06 open headers----so far!!

all i can add is...plan to do it for atleast 2 yrs. even if its a doesnt make money at first...most events that remain consistent and have the patience stick it out a yr or two...make the difference.. the Payouts will bring people no matter... look at how the SGMP runs "no mercy 4" that thing seems to be making money..with enticing pay outs.
the couple of people ive ever spoken to over the yrs....about promotion of a race..all say..it takes a yr or two of consistent expectations..to bring the car counts...
best of luck i dig the nostalgia aspect.. and the north east definitely has the cars for it...

Bob I think in the show car area, most all the show car people have friends with other brand cars, a best other make trophy would bring in several cars I believe, and I enjoy looking at them as well, also a old drive in trick every person you can stick in a car for one price! advertise! car clubs, auto parts stores etc. good luck let me know how I can help.
