You may be right Cab, We have yet to mate up engine and trans.

I know it bolts fine to both the crank and converter,
what sort of problems are people seeing?

I have a 6 bolt steel crank and a hi-po 383 converter
which then needed the special flex plate.

We're too far into finishing our car to reconsider internal balancing.
What problems should I look for going ahead??

Should we just put the weights on the converter and go stock flex plate?

Thanks, Joe

Yes it is a true 6pk motor, with a steel crank. Where do you weld the weights on the convertor and how much weight? 1970 440

One of the Direct Connection Engine Manuals has a diagram for the weights.

And Mancini sells a weight kit with templates for positioning.
I'm still undecided, need to hear more on the problems...Cab?

The three most dangerous words on the Internet: I have heard.......

If you already have the B&M flexplate, for the love of Pete, USE IT.
The most important thing is where it bolts to the crank, there I'd not do any "finishing" of holes. But where the plate bolts to the converter, so what if you have to move a hole a little?

And where is the FIRSTHAND information that this problem even exists? B&M is a reputable company that has been serving the high performance market for decades.

Bolt holes not lining up is the problem that has been reported.

Ad dog days said the most important part is bolting it to the crank, those holes have to match because if they don't the weighting will not be in the proper place.

Drop it on the convertor and find out which holes line up then mark the plate and the converter so you know where to start.

The one issue I can see with a solid flexplate is a gross misalignment between the engine and the trans. Just like a manual trans bellhousing the runout can be an issue which is why the factory used a flex plate and not a more solid plate.

Thanks for the input guys, my bolt holes line up without any interference, so I'm going with the B&M plate.
I will check concentricity too.

I have marked the plate/converter for easier assembly.

One thing I have always wondered is if the flex plate is there
for thrust movement differential fore and aft on accel/decel between
the engine and trans??

Joe

No,that's why the plate is not flat.
