is the VIN stamped on the right side bottom on a '68 440 hp engine like the '69 440 or on the driver's side left top on the bellhousing like a '68 383 hp???

I can only remember a '68 383 having the VIN on the left/bellhousing.

Bellhousing, but not all 68's got stamped.
Don't know when in 68, that it started.

drivers side, left top right by the bell housing. If one is stamped then both should be stamped right next to each other. Auto tranny is stamped. not sure about manual bell housing but I would think not.

MOST 68 440HP engines were stamped (many low performance 440's were not for some reason), further more I've never seen or heard of a documented 68 Hemi car that wasn't stamped (Any exceptions? Please come forward with proof)

68 cars (440 & Hemi) had the VIN sequence stamped in the raw cast iron casting (not machined flat first) adjacent to the oil sender hole, the automatic trans VIN Sequence was stamped on the flange right on top, right behind the engine stamping. Manual trans VIN sequence numbers were stamped into the raised pad on the pass side of the trans.

Most 68 Dart GTS 383 cars had the number stamped same as the 440.

On my '68 road runner the number that was stamped on the radiator support and trunk drip rail was NOT the car's VIN but the number in the lower right corner of the fender tag, so is it the last digits of the VIN that is stamped on the '68 engine and trans or the fender tag number?
