Well after 193 passes, of which 148 were with nitrous....Running it too fat finally caught up to me...I have leaned it out to the tune of picking up almost 6 mph, and its still a little fat! After running a nice and too fast pass of 8.43 @ 160. (for 8.50 index)I rolled up my chute, put it in the car, purged my line. When i started the car to drive back, i noticed a lot of smoke out the header, Well when i got back i pulled the plugs, sure enough #8 was oiled pretty heavily, but the strap was still there!!! LOL Im sure upon inspection its gonna have a lifted ring... Its served me well, cant complain at all, a shelf piston and moly ring thats seen WAY more nitrous than it was intended to. New parts were already on order before this even happened so

Well, if it lasted that much longer than you expected it to I guess you can't really complain.
I just hope it didn't take anything else with it.

Cool! (well not the damage..) What does it run on the motor, and how much jooos?
last time i ran it on motor it had 4.10 gears, it went 9.85 At 134. Now it has 3.70 gears, i have never run it on motor with the 3.70's
how much nitrous??? well .070 jet in a plate, and .032 in a fogger, jet area adds up to .114 so about 375-400 hp
we had to go over the scales yesterday, it was 3515lbs
Did you have the fogger square jetted? How about the plate? I was running a 87n/91f combo in my plate and a 24/24 jet combo in the fogger in a 408" indy headed smallblock. car ran a best of 6.19 @ 111.5 on motor and a 5.50 @ 126 on just the plate. I hit the second kit (fogger) after it spun the tires one time and it went 132mph but still only went a 5.50 because of the bad 60'. Last time at the track I hit the second kit and burned a ground strap on #4 and melted some of the piston too. I was told it was too rich but it appears that to me that it was too lean. Im almost afraid to try to lean it out after burning a piston but Im being told that too fat is what caused the damage. I was running 16* total timing and was told that was too much as well. It needed to be at 12*.

i am leary to post my tune up, because as someone told me, they read your post and then burn [Edited by Moparts - Keep it clean] up and blame it on you....LOL
You havene listed any fuel psi with your jetting, i was 5.2 on the plate, and 5.2 on the fogger, fogger was 32n 28f, now you see me, i made 140++ passes, not all with that jetting, but all were with nitrous, Obviously your motor didnt like something, most likely it was timing, like i have been told, it takes a lot to lean the fuel out and hurt it. My problem i think is too fat, (only recently have i leaned it out a lot) and combination of parts that were never intended to see 300+ nitrous oxide ( Moly rings, and a Shelf piston) If you use nitrous, and you want to go fast, you have to expect some carnage, its all part of the learning curve.
All that being said, what fuel psi did you have in your kits?? What fuel were you using??

Well upon disassmbly, all i can see is the second ring is pinched on the #8 piston. I measured the top alomst all the way around and the deck ht was still the same, it hasnt lifted the top of the piston at all. But the second ring is TIGHT actually it doesnt move at all LOL LOL. Other than that, the rest of the pistons all look good..

I am definitely not defending Eddie here. As most know, I think he runs his mouth too much, is full of hot air and I give him grief often...however...when YOU call a man out and then HE won't come 1,000 miles to race you in your backyard, there is not really a whole lot you can say. Eddie lives in south Florida. He has to drive 400 miles, just to get out of his home state. I am a little out of the way, but Englishtown is 1150 miles for me and Moroso is nearly 900 miles from me. So somehwere around the Tennessee area is halfway for Eddie, not Ohio. That would kinda be like Al Alguire calling me out and them claiming I was afraid, because I would not drive to Phoenix to race him. If you are doing the calling out, you should be willing to travel to prove your point. At least that is how I see it.

You might as well not run him, cause if you outrun him you still won't win.
They'll be some nutswinger talking about how it's a streetcar, even tho it broke down every 50 miles or so. How easy it is to forget that when it made it trouble free, it had a different combo.
We outran him with the Dakota. A truck, on a leafspring, a radial, no wheelie bars, a smaller motor with less head, less nitrous, and outweighed him by 400lbs and there were STILL excuses. We have let off the gas, out of gear, and still been faster and quicker than his BEST pass. Yet he is everyone's hero. 7.90's with that combo - for shame.
So, if you race him, be prepared...
"He's on pump gas" - no, he won't be, and NEVER is when it's at the track. "It's a street car" - if my daily driver broke down that often I'd sell it and get something more reliable. Hell never mind Drag Week, it broke down last time out in Daytona. "Your car is purpose built" - Like a dyno tuned 600" Predator headed 4 link car on a big tire is run of the mill. "Blah blah blah" - Followed by some other lame excuse.
I'll keep you guys posted on the top secret race with him and a small block/small tire/stock suspension Malibu coming up...
I'm betting on the 'Bu.

Monte
I never said Eddie was afraid. He wanted me to go to Orlando, cmon is that halfway??? I never wanted him to come to Englishtown, thats only 90 miles for me.
The only reason i called him out was because at some events people come up to me and tell me that i should race him because they are tired of hearing him talk about how fast his car is when in reality it has all the equipment to run in the 6's when its barely in the 7's. I think Eddie is a very good engine builder. But honestly Monte, if you didnt lay your hands on the car it still would be a 8 sec car . Hes got way better car than me, i have NO business being in the next lane.....BUT if the chance presents itself, and i feel im ready, i will go for it. Other than that, i give Eddie the respect and props he deserves.
