What's the opinion on the exhaust pulses destroying the dynomax superturbos and then having them rattling?
Here are a couple of links as it is now:

There is a chance of breaking spot welds on any muff but Dynomax are a good muff.. we did a study on a few muffs we were looking at for production but the Germans got their way so we didnt use the Dynomax(but we were looking at a custom built one for production to meet our specs)

thats how it sounds inside with all windows closed. on the video it sounds nice, but if you drive it for more than 10min it is annoying. web page if the weather is fine I can send the magna vs turbos comparison this weekend

I run the Dynomax Hemi Turbo's 17769. Like I said On my motor I think ultraflows would be a it too many Db's even though I like the tone. DB's are proportional to compresion and overlap so without the benefit of the reverse flows I would be rattling my neighbor's molars out of his head. My on backpressure and reverse flows being too restrictive and "costing power"....well if that were the case I would expect to see the muffler cases getting hot spots and swelling if the backpressure were too severe to flow. I think if there's real measurable backpressure restricting flow that pressure would (logically) be pushing against the muffler case as it is much thinner than the rest of the exhaust system. Also the longer down pipes (especially a B body) and the cases themselves absorb and dissipate a lot of heat before they ever get to the mufflers.

I am a big fan of 2.5 mandrel bent tail pipes with turn downs. My guess is you would see very little flow loss in a system with 3". Head pipes and tailpipes and one with 3" heads and 2.5 tail pipes. The tips just act like a megaphone. That is why I like the turn downs.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

Here's a pic of some great resonators...it'll quiet that car right down too:
Not the stock look I have been imagining...
Ok, talked to the shop, they had the 17744's brought in, asked if they would do the 17769's which were the muffs I had originally supplied. If they call back and say Yes, it goes in next week. If No, I do it myself or find a shop that will fix me up.
Thanks all; I will follow up with a report and a couple clips when I get this straightened out. FS

Hooker Aerochambers are what you need. Although I'm surprised what you have is too loud for you. The Aerochambers will be quieter, but still flow very well. The Dynomax super turbos sound good and are quiet, but they don't flow well at all. You'll be able to tell you lost power as soon as you pull out onto the highway from the exhaust shop if you put them on your car. Just went through this same scenario w/ my dad's 475 hp 440-6 road runner. Started out w/ Dynomax ultraflows, but they were too loud for him (sounded great to me). Put on some super turbos...he loved the sound (quieter), but hated the loss of power. Put on some Hooker Aerochambers...now all is right w/ the world.

Thats why I like to mount them back at the bumper... with the exhaust being cooler back there its reduced in volume/area and isnt near the loss.. but if the car is predominantly a street car they are great... I dont like to get into the muff posts because its all a personal preference thing... sound quality,hp loss and drone

ah, the truck muffler... looks like I'll be getting truck mufflers, too, just don't know yet who will be putting them on.
Dropped off the RR this am and had it back by 2:30. First start it sounded pretty similar to the magnaflows but it was clear as soon as I hit the street that the 17769s were the right choice. Quiet enough to have a conversation, hear the other cars on the street, and still sound pretty dam good!
On the drive home tonight I heard a little drone @ around 40-45mph getting up to speed on the I80 on-ramp but by 50mph it was gone and the exhaust note was very mild at cruising speed. Plenty louder when I laid into it.
Couldn't be happier. The receipt did say no warranty though, the guy thinks the engine is going to blow these things apart.

Glad your happy with them... I have no idea why he thinks they will be blown apart... for being a exhaust guy he doesnt know that much.. if you knew the frequency of the drone you can change that(or just drive through it quicker)... are you running tail pipes with them.. on the drone is it at a rpm that you can live with (cruise speeds)

Yes on tailpipes, 2" Doug's D452s, 3" pipes with an 'H', then 3" tailpipes. The tips are 3" factory style tips. Really, the drone was very mild and only in a short range and you're right, I can drive through it though I don't think it'll ever bother. As for the blowing apart, this guy is probably one of the 2 top guys in Des Moines, IA and he does beautiful work. Maybe he's had a bad experience with turbo mufflers on big motors, but I'm super happy with his work and I'll go back, can't wait to get my old GTO over to him. And thanks to all for the replies, I had some doubt on the turbos but I know I made the right choice.

Took me a little bit longer to take the videos as I was on vacation meanwhile. Do not get irritated by the sound volume. The decibel-measure-thing says it all. The quieter Turbos are also way bigger. The sound itself is totally different and at the moment I do not like it but lets wait some miles. Maybe it will change. it is definitely more fun to drive now but one new problem occurs. The A/F ratio was always 14.5-15.5 at idle and after the swap it is 19.5-21. What could have caused this? I changed nothing but the mufflers and I would guess the straight through Magnas would outflow the Turbos? If not and the Turbos flow mch more, then it would sense. Oh, and the quality of the Magnas is so much better! Around the car with Magnaflows Around the car with TurbosDennis
