After a recent discussion about the good, bad and ugly of my aftermarket Six Pack air cleaners I decided to head up to my rafters to drag out my factory Six Pack air cleaner setups. I have 2 complete brand new setups. I'm sure they're older repops. One has the front shield permanently attached, the other looks to have holes in the front to bolt one on? I think the shield is in the rafters. I have 2 new Fram filters both with the CA332V but with different numbers stamped on them. Are these filters still available? I might test fit/run one of factory setups but am thinking of getting a K&N E-1980 Six Pack filter and not using the new Fram filters unless they are still available and cheap. Good idea or a waste of money on the K&N? Thanks.

I had no idea that the filter elements were valued that highly. I recently removed the K&N and replaced it with the original that I had in storage. I believe that I'll put the K&N back in and take the original to a swap meet. Originality isn't that important to me.

Why then the shield, to prevent direct hot air from the rad? One would think the hood scoop type (A12) would need it most, to prevent direct water ingress.
Joe
I think the A12's and the T/A and AAR setups have a seal that connects the air cleaner base to the bottom of the hood so nothing from the inside of the engine compartment would be able to get at the air cleaner.
From what I read the shield is for steel hood cars with no fresh air option and have the air cleaner setup exposed to the engine compartment. The shield helps to keep heat and fluids coming off the fan from going into the front of the air cleaner.

So it makes your base even more rare.

But,you can remove the shield and make it well done!

In the same vein, I don't have my carbs on the engine yet and was wondering, I want to put the decal on the newly painted top, is the deep wing nut dimple in the front or back??
Thanks, Joe
While we're on the subject is there a trick to putting the decal on the lid without causing it to wrinkle?

I'm in Massillon.
I didn't even notice if one of the wing nut dimples is deeper than the other, I'll have to check mine and would be interested to know the correct orientation.

put the decal on with water with a little dishwashing liquid-slide it around until your happy and then squeegee the water out with even a chamois and it`ll be fine. i haven`t tried the phoenix graphics gel but it does sound like a great product for decal applying. all the best frank.

A little late but look at the lid, once the carbs are on the car the lid will only go on one way !!
