I definitely don't have 3/4" -- It's more like a coat of paint. Guess I better go after this while I'm at it too---suggestions here?

The next time I need a windage tray for my big blocks I'm going to try this one piece tray/oil pan gasket.

They are available for stroker engines too.

And are reusable.

No more messing with 2 gaskets to make a windage tray sandwich.

"JEGS Big Block Mopar & Hemi windage tray is made from glass filled nylon and features re-usable silicone gaskets molded on the top & bottom of the tray. This tray is made using the same materials as many modern production engines. This combination windage tray & gasket increases HP, can be hand washed with soap & water and re-used over & over again. Future engine service is simpler since you won't have to scrape off the old gasket and replace it each time the oil pan is removed. Available in two sizes - up to 3.75" stroke or up to 4.15" stroke for all Big Block Mopar (383/400/413/426W/426 Hemi/440) engines"

Thanks for the info. I rarely take it over 5 grand. Sounds like it's not gonna go back in. Any thoughts pon best place to buy a new pan? Prefer to get a chrome one?

I've had the low oil pressure warning come on under 5000 rpm. I pedaled it in front of some motorcycle folks stopped at the country store near my house. My 440 sounds fantastic when it's angry. The problem turned out to be a washboard stretch of tarmac. The rear wheels were picking up speed between washboard humps while in free air. This enabled the high volume oil pump to suck the 5 quart pan dry in 2-3 seconds.

Unless you drive like Grandpa I'd leave it in.

hmmm ... guess you guys are talking me into leaving it in. I was just looking for a good excuse not to have to monkey around with the 2 gasket routine. Next problem though is how do I shim up the engine to get more clearance with the linkage??

Really.

What did the tach say?

A high volume pump pumps no more oil than a standard pump at a given pressure and the notion of a pan being pumped dry due to a high volume pump is a fallacy.

I doubt that the combo of high volume pump and a wash board road caused your problem.

To the OP. If the center link hits the pan, it's not the windage tray's fault, you probably have another problem. As someone mentioned, hard to image you care enough about performance to put in a cam, but not install a free windage tray.

So ... there are no longer two trays for the B/RB/Hemi ?... just one that fits everything and the 4.15 combo ??

OK---gonna put the tray back in along with my new pan. NOW.......what should I do about the clearance problem. My car has been like this since I've owned it. It's a clone and I never did anything to the engine mounts. Looking at it from underneath, I'm not sure how I can get more clearance ???

Do you know anything about your engine mounts?

Take a look at them...are they rubber?

Do they look like they are smashed down, a cheap $$ rubber mount will sag pretty quick.

Does your engine sit level in the car?

If the car is an automatic, open the hood, put the car in drive and hold the brake and gently give the car gas while watching the engine from the driver's seat, does the engine lift and/or move to the right a whole bunch?
Don't get carried away, if the engine starts to move/lift a large amount back off.

Do the same in reverse, does it move to the left?

Post a picture of the mounts and your clearance if you can.

Mounts are rubber and appear to be in good shape. Engine sits level and there is no rocking going on between the KFrame and the engine. I'll post some pix tomorrow. It's been like this since I bought it and I just never questioned it---figured the windage tray was chewing up the clearances.
