I am replacing the oil pan on my 440 Challenger RT.
It has a windage tray installed now and I'm wondering whether or not it is worth reinstalling. It's a street car - stock heads, Edelbrock Performer intake, 850 cfm Holly and mopar performance purple cam. What do you guys think ?? any real benefit?
Also where's a good place to get a replacement pan--I'd to go with a chrome one

You have it, I'd put it back on. It's easy to put one on a 440. It will keep the oil down in the pan and stabilized (less slosh). Not sure about a chrome pan, I've used Milodon and like them.

I actually was having a little clearance issue with the steering linkage under the pan (rubbed slightly) and was wondering if it was worth the bother. I'll put it in if there will be some difference in performance. Thanks

Use some motor mount spacers.

They have proven to be worth 15 HP at and above 5000 RPM on engine dyno tetsts done by Ma Mopra many times, the higher the RPM the higher the gain

But,unless you drag race or street race how often do you see 5000 RPM's ?

Thanks for the info. I rarely take it over 5 grand. Sounds like it's not gonna go back in. Any thoughts pon best place to buy a new pan? Prefer to get a chrome one?

Summit should have one , what pan is on the car now ? The stock pan shouldn't come close to rubbing , and the windage tray wouldn't cause it unless the gaskets are 1/4" thick ... each ...

It'd give you a slight benefit. It's pretty thin & I wouldn't think you'd gain the steering linkage clearance you are after by tossing it keeping in mind that the eng as you know torques over when you get on it. I'd check what my oil pickup clearance is with or without it if you do pull the pan. If chrome pans are chromed on the gasket flanges I'd for sure sand it off. As said I'd look into spacing the motor up to deal with it that way & not sure if raising the eng would alter the driveshaft angle to where it would need to be checked. Just tossing out thoughts.

I have the stock pan on it right now. The linkage rubbed just enough to scratch up the paint. drain plug threads are marginal and I'm gonna be doing some cam work, so I figured I'd straighten out this pan issue finally. Just didn't know if the difference in performance would be worth it (or noticeable)Yeah I was concerned about shimming the engine not knowing what that would mean to driveshaft alignment. Chrome pan is only a thought right now it depends on the bucks thnx

Chrome may be a sealing nightmare. Gaskets slide and squish. You'll need to rough it up. Good chance if you find a pan it will be Chinese quality.

I have a new stock 440 source pan if you need one.
I ended up using the deep pan I had. The stroker source windage tray won't fit under a stock or modified stock pan like my Ed Hamburger pan so mine isn't getting a windage tray.

Why would you mess around changing cams if you are throwing the windage tray away? Might as well unhook the secondaries on the carb as well.

The next time I need a windage tray for my big blocks I'm going to try this one piece tray/oil pan gasket.

They are available for stroker engines too.

Sounds like you have motor mount issue , there should be 3/4" space between the pan and the centerlink.
