Glad your ok AL...could have been a real mess.

Three things that cause soft plug failures.

1)Shallow type soft plugs. I hate them. I only use deep plugs . Period.
2) Detonation and vibration. Enuff said.
3) Painted or dirty soft plug bores. When people paint blocks, they often dont tape off ( or clean afterwartds) the paint in the soft plug openings. Paint wont help the problem.

I lightly clean the bore, a small bead of #2 Permatex, three " stakes" with a chisel, and never an issue. Some circle track builds take a different approach with a more positive lock procedure. I also do use brass plugs, as I believe they conform better to the bores, and have more bite...

For the block, why not tack weld a "bur" to the block once the plugs are in. Hit it up on 3 or 4 spots around the plug and then it won't "Pop" out.

I may do that the next time my engine is out of the car!

Glad that you were able to save it! Getting sideways at that speed must have been a "pucker ride" for sure!!
You might want to consider installing a 'chute.

Put a layer of Good silicone sealer on the outside whole plug they will not come out if you let it totally setup. And if you dojn't have to hit them hard get another plug DO NOT USE THE RUBBER BOLT IN TYPE

I blew a FP on my friends FED with a blown/racegas 392 Hemi.
Not fun when the engine is in front of you and you get soaked with HOT water on the finish line.
I now own the car and it will get a blown KB hemi and methanol and no cooler needed.

Hope you get it back together soon

That sucks but it could have been worse. Looks like you drove good enough to save it.

Last time that happened to me it was in the burnout box, and it popped out due to my head gasket failing and pressurising my cooling system. U may wanna look into that

Glad it wasn't worse.
I have a park lamp housing but that's all, lemme know if you need it. Lenses are repopped and widely available. Try Tony's Parts for a fender, unless you want to go 'glass.
