Glad your ok AL...could have been a real mess. Three things that cause soft plug failures. 1)Shallow type soft plugs. I hate them. I only use deep plugs . Period. 2) Detonation and vibration. Enuff said. 3) Painted or dirty soft plug bores. When people paint blocks, they often dont tape off ( or clean afterwartds) the paint in the soft plug openings. Paint wont help the problem. I lightly clean the bore, a small bead of #2 Permatex, three " stakes" with a chisel, and never an issue. Some circle track builds take a different approach with a more positive lock procedure. I also do use brass plugs, as I believe they conform better to the bores, and have more bite...

Glad that you were able to save it! Getting sideways at that speed must have been a "pucker ride" for sure!! You might want to consider installing a 'chute.

I blew a FP on my friends FED with a blown/racegas 392 Hemi. Not fun when the engine is in front of you and you get soaked with HOT water on the finish line. I now own the car and it will get a blown KB hemi and methanol and no cooler needed. Hope you get it back together soon
