Iv only seen a GM Power Trax unit.. It appeared to be smaller in diameter than a normal Posi unit. I think Id rather have the larger factory unit. JMO... I can tell you that my 741 SG in my shorty will kick sideways on wet or snowy roads. On dry roads it launches perfectly straight.

I am truckless..

ScratchnFOtraction has some valuable insight on this topic. He may chime in soon.

I have a powertrax locker and the what I dislike most is the noise.
Its next to impossible to turn a corner without the loud clack-clack-clack noise.

Is it like the Detroit Locker click? I sort of like that sound for some reason.

Lock Rites are noisier than Detroit Lockers. They also have 1/4" of internal lash, which is really annoying when you get on and off the throttle.

I had one in my Duster360/904/3.91 gears. Pulled many a holeshot and never broke it and never felt any excess lash. Yes you do have the clacking noise on 90 degree turns but it also helps to run a heavy gear oil too. They aren't for everybody for sure.

1970 FE5 Duster 360/904/3.91's SOLD 1973 TB3 SpaceDuster 340/4spd/4.10's SOLD Moparless for now but when the opportunity is right I'll have another one.

I've got the clutch type behind a 496. The car is set up for handling and the rear works great. I know the re-pops aren't always available but I got a good one.

If its used its mostlikely worn out.. Personally Id never buy a used "cone" unit..

Well I know of a 3.91 741 case clutch type buts its missing the pin in the middle for axle adjustment for $250,I was going to buy it but I just found another clutch type cheaper and the 4.30 clutch in my RR is coming out when the Dana goes in.

The other option is always full spool, but there is so much "do it", "dont do it", discussion for a street driven vehicle that I cant come to a good conclusion on using a spool.

Vehicle would be a 92 Dakota ex cab, shortbox, 5.2, auto with OD, and 3.73 gear in a B-body 8-3/4

No towing, no heavy hauling (the Dakota isn't made for hauling much) I do have up to 200lbs in the bed at given times with my tool box (constant weight of about 80lbs) my spare tire (around 40lbs) and occasionally the wheelchair (another 80lbs)

I have personally used the power trax units in 489 case mopars. they come with street or strip spring sets. use the street set . when letting off the throttle at crusing speeds , you will notice the disengagement of the locker. it will make the vehicle sway at the instant you let off.. it is noisy .. it does pop every few feet when turning.[sounds like something is broken in the rear]. a spool is going to cause problems with tire scrub for highway use... the vehicle will not want to turn easily. the clutch pack units are the most streetable and will hook you up real good -if it is properly installed-they will ware out with abuse ,the p.trax will take a beating and is a simple , quick install.. there's the pro's and con's

I had a powertrax with 4.10s and an auto. I never thought it was noisy at all. Yes once in a great while it would disengage as I let off, but I didn't find it obnoxious whatsoever. It was very dependable.
If running a stick shift I know it can be a lot more noisy and noticeable. It was noisy when pushing the car around however.
I would use one again in a heartbeat.

For the street (and strip), limited slip SG should do the trick just fine. Powertrax is more for off-road, IMO, poor traction conditions with stock horsepower levels.

Factory sg properly build is plenty for that application, don't make it harder than it is.

I wasnt trying to make it harder. Just seeing what would fit the budget best.

The powertrax fits into an open carrier without having to reset the gear setup, or try and figure out which bearings the SG used in its original chunk. And I have an open carrier available. And i had a line on an unused powertrax a guy didn't use and was going to sell at a decent price.

But I think Brian may have found me a SG ready to run, so thats the path I'm looking into now.

With that SG and gearset, and some DrDiff axles I should be ready to go.
