Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

how about some Mopar F-bodies?

Don't know if these cars are actaully F-body based. I doubt it. Maybe Kit Cars???

These cars ran in the Kelly American Challenge. Sponsored by Kelly Girl.

I don't see why they couldn't be Kit Car based. Page 88 of the 1982 Direct Connection catalog lists a Mirada Sheet Metal Package for the Kit Car, P4120759. Pretty cool. It surprises me how much info is not out there about the IMSA/Kelly Volares, Aspens and Miradas (build info, chassis numbers, etc). I thought they were cool race cars.

To bump this thread, and to add on to AutoXCuda's post, I thought I'd add a couple of Kelly Challenge pics.

Kathy Rude -

An oops for Kathy -

I'm given to understand that the Kit Car Volare that Kathy drove is alive and well, racing short-track in the south.

The Cohen Aspen depicted earlier survived as well -

The Mancini/Oldfield Aspen. I heard that it got totalled -

And some pics of the Hemi Belvedere at the '65 Daytona Continental that has been mentioned several times on different posts. Dave Friedman pics -

Not often that you see a Hemi Belvedere in front of a GT40!

Notice the framed door & quarter glass, like the 4 RO/WO "A990" '65 drag cars had...you just know there's a lot more to that story...
Is that the same Dave Friedman that took all the Shelby photos back in the day?

Chris, how did you get those great Dave Friedman pictures?

I heard from the guys at SA Publishing at SEMA that Friedman's picture archieve (and other archieves he'd purchased) all was bought by Ford Historical or some other Ford entity. And that it was expensive to get pictures now to use in publications.

I just went through your picture galleries. You've saved some very cool pictures there. I haven't seen those pictures of the Challenger bare trans am chassis since it was for sale years ago. Wasn't that for sale from New Mexico also? Maybe AZ?? Can't remember.

The Friedman gallery did go to the Ford Archives. Tons of cool pics here -

I really can't remember where I came up with the Challenger tub photo. I want to think it was buried in a forum (not this one) somewhere that I stumbled across. If it was sold here in NM, it's news to me. Glad you enjoyed the gallery.

Any one have thoughts on this supercharged Coronet (?) that was in that gallery? I think it was misfiled, as it does not appear to be part of the 1965 Daytona Continental race -

Built by Ray Fox, driven by Lee Roy Yarbrough from what I can see.

The Vintage Motorsport article did mention that the FIA homologation was based on the drag cars since they were already being produced at the time. The article went on to say that Belvedere chassis #023 (the one depicted here) was constructed at Chrysler Engineering to be used as a model for their stock car teams to construct their own racecars. After the race, the car never appeared again.

The '65 Coronet pictured was a closed-course speed record attempt @ Talledega or Daytona, IIRC.
The Belvedere is also notable for some of its add-ons, like the rear brake scoops (which look marine in origin) and what looks like a pass-through hole (with an external lip) in the driver's door.
