I believe I read somewhere that the Dart actually uses a Mustang style leaf springs, which are only 2" compared to the mopar 2.5" wide version. With the panhard doing location duty, the width of the springs for roll resistance is less important. Current owner has several Mustang racers as well, which may be why he went down that path.

They "looked" 2" in the pic, and "seemed" rather thick leafs, which I supposed a narrower leaf would need to be for equal rate. But why a mustang leaf, just for ease of selection based on his on the shelf selection, or something else?

GREAT PICS OVERALL!!!! I spent this past Sat (July 20) at Road America (Elkhart Lk, WIS) watching the Vintage historic races... The Swede Savage #42 AAR Cuda raced.. I spent time talking with his crew and owner Andy Boone.. I'll be posting pics soon.

Those are custom springs; maybe narrower for tire clearance as much as anything else, reversed eyes for a couple of reasons. Tunneling the floor for the exhaust came later, pretty common by '70. You can just see the right side tunnel in this pic, inboard of the vacuum tank.
The rear leaf eyes look to have mono-balls (spherical) in them and designed to slide laterally on a shackle bolt/sleeve as to follow the arc of the panhard rod.

I believe the car is still owned out your way. Here is a very recent photo of Bob McKee, creator of the Hemi Plymouth sports racer. Bob is still a very sharp engineer and has a shop in suburban Illinois. Several of his Can-Am and F5000 cars show up at Road America regularly and Bob is always there to lend a hand.
