The reason to use the new electronic reg instead of points is because they charge much better.Typically you dont have the light flicker and dimming.Plus no points to stick or burn.Ive driven Mopars since the 60s.The replacement reg is one great part. They also charge better than the points. The reg in the picture might be one of the new ones that have the large cover.Look at the back.If there is a resistor its points type. The replacements attach just like OE but are maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch high.Rocky

I was just commenting in regards to an electronic ignition that my experience was that it ran just fine with the mechanical reg.

Twostick most think you have to change the alt etc when you go to electronic ign.Im like you I know you dont.My kids 62 ran great for 2 years with the old mechanical reg. When it crapped out he went to the replacement electronic.I cant believe the 62 alt still works great and fires the now full MSd and his stereo.Bboo thats one of a few Ive seen that have the tall cover. Most are just almost flat.Rocky

THIS. If the 69/ earlier style has a tall cover, look at the bottom. The old "points" type regulator has two Great Big resistors underneath. The one posted above is electronic

Old relay/ points style:
