I have a stock stroke .030 360 in my car, and have gone 10.56. It's nothing special, kb 107s, .525 solid cam, mild ported eddys, m1 intake and 850 alcohol QF carb. It has a 9" J converter, 727 w/transbrake, and 4.30 rear gear with 29" tires.

Sounds like a strong runner. What cam is it? Any head flow specs?

What he said. PLUS...

Converter flash?
Finish line RPM?
Car weight?
Ever run it off the footbrake???

Thanks!

Could be an off the shelf or custom grind bullet or racer brown for cam. If the cam is matched to heads based on lift of what ever ratio rocker he is using and valve lash setting for actual lift should be roughly in the 260ish area for cfm. JMO

My previous engine was a 030 stock stroke (stock crank) 360 with 11-1 compression, ported W2 (300cfm) a solid flat tappet in a +3000lbs 64 Dart. It went 10.83 at 122 on E-85.

The beauty of the 340 is the bore stroke ratio and the long rod loves to rev; to build one today around the standard stroke I'd probably take the rod journal down to the 2.00" (SBC size) and use a 6.200" rod and get the bobweight that much lighter. The only downside compared to a327 was the tall 9.6 deck height still makes the slugs quite a bit heavier.

I remember hitting 7800 with my W2 340 with heavy TRW slugs, an Isky solid flat tap and it was running 11.70's (hazing 70's vintage tires in 3 gears lol) over 30 yrs ago in a Dart 4 speed (no Scattershield). The fun for me with 340's were all with manual trans cars since they wouldn't fall out of a tree below around 4000-4200. Today it'd be that much easier to go 10's with a roller and much better rocker gear. I'd want to do a five speed in something really light (sub 2700 w/d) just to be more fun and a bit more streetable.

MUCH easier to go quick with a stroker....but nowhere near as thrilling

I like the thought process on this. The rods that are going in my .030 340 for now are aluminum and are alittle shorter then the stock 6.123 rod length because of rod
stretch. To even make things better I'll be running a trw .030 12:1 piston. Next motor when I have more then enough money I would love to experiment with stuff like you had mentioned. Also with lighter pistons and crank. A lite weight stroker rotating assembly would be interesting!

another one of my 340s was a .030 stock stroke Mechart hollow dome stainless rods arias hi dome pistons with the same X heads as mentioned above in a tube chassi 2500 same tranny and conv as mentioned but with a quick change rear I think it was a 5.80 or 6.10 gear 32 x 15 tire through all three gears in 1/8 mile ran 6.80s @ 110mph also with a 800 c&s aersol alk.carb and o ya the dist was loose timing backed off in the 20s. ppl couldn't understand how a car could go through the 1/8th in all 3 gears crossing the line at 7000 only got to run the combo that one day as the track was shut down afterwards never to be opened again.

My stock stroke 340 with J heads runs decent. I went 11.30 @ 118 in my duster in average air. It's all steel. Next year it will be getting a glass hood and bumpers and running on E85. Hoping to get close to the 10s.
