I got a dead 74 duster. It wont do anything when I turn the key, but will crank on the starter relay but wont fire there know lights either. It started fine until I was fooling with the dash cluster and forgot to unhook the battery. And the 2 wires that hook up behind the amp meter touched each other and blew the fusible link. I replaced that with a 20amp link from oriellys and still wont do anything. The only thing the link changed was the oil light on the cluster came on. Im not getting any spark from the coil. Is it still the fusible link or Is there something else I could have fried.
Thanks

that doesn't sound right.
the two wires at the amp meter can be wired together to complete the circuit.
That should not have blown the fusable link, unless you grounded them some how.

check for power at the amp meter, it sounds like you are not completing the circuit still.
check inside the bulkhead and see if power is making it in, as it sounds like it isn't.

if you have power to one side and not the other of the bulkhead, split it and see if burned something or broke the connectoin there.

The 1974 models came with the dreaded Federally mandated " Starter/seat belt interlock system". This prevented the car from being started unless the seat belts were connected. The system includes many electrical parts that earlier cars did not have including but not limited to: Sensors in the front seat cushion to detect an occupant or occupants, sensors in the female seat belt latch, wiring for these sensors, a small 1" x 3"x 4.5" plastic "brain" that houses a small circuit board (Mounted behing the guage panel) and a small relay mounted on the fender apron near the windshield washer jug.
When the fusible link burned it probably sent heat through the wiring and damaged the wires associated with the seatbelt system. I had this happen to me on a 74 Duster. I ended up bypassing the seatbelt system entirely. I also went ahead and tied the red and black guage wires together and ran a separate 10g wire from the alternator directly to the battery positive terminal. The car then started and ran fine, though the ALT guage was stuck dead center at all times.

If it truly doesn't do "anything" when you turn the key you might have a bad ignition switch, very common issue with these, in fact mine went out on my daily driver Duster just last week....Sucks to do steering column surgery on these!

if it wont crank with the key then I'd get fire to the "ign" terminal on the starter relay from the yellow wire plugged into that terminal and check that the "grn" terminal next to it on the starter relay is being grounded in park/neutral (not sure which circuit the seat belt interlock interupts). If it cranks but wont start the coil positive primary terminal and the ECU power wire both need fire in "ign2", the brown wire ballast bypass circuit & if not see whare the open is

try starting in N as the linkage could be holding the NSS from hitting while in park.

sealt belt interlock may have you locked out.

does it start and run with key in run position and jumping the starter?

or no spark?
