They may make it sound like it wasn't but that just adds to the story... The guy was into old stuff as that has to do with his business, so why would he want some shiny fresh painted truck. Since they added those new idiots on the show, it's been going down hill. They aren't funny, they just make the shop look worse in my opinion.
