A few weeks ago I was asking around here about the widest wheel/tire combo that I could get on my '68 Road Runner with stock leaf spring location, axles, etc. With 5.5" back-spacing on my 15" x 10" steel wheels, I was able to get 295/55R15 tires underneath the car with no issues. That's a 10.9" tread/12.1" section tire...just a heads-up for any one looking for wheel/tire combos that will work (at least, for '68/'69 Road Runners). I'll try and post photos tomorrow.

My wheels were only able to be bought in a 9.5 inch width with 5.5 in backspace. I was able to run a 275-60-17 tire with no issues. I did have to add a 3/4 solid spacer in front of the leaf spring hangers to push the rear back far enough to keep them from hitting the 1/4 panel. The tires have a 10" tread width and about 11 1/2" section width. the advertised diameter was 29.98" but with a tape measure they appear to be a tad over 30". The 70 has large rear wheel openings and I wanted the opening as full as possible. It worked out good. I don't know about 68-9 RR wheel openings but I know they won't go under a friends 68 Coronet.
