as far as looks I'd think it would look good. my main issue with the bigger wheels are when there isn't enough sidewall.

what do you guys think of the year one 17" rally wheels on a 70's truck? (my 78 shortbox) if I keep it I want to upgrade the tires and thinking these would look cool on it. only issue is perhaps the backspacing. 17x8 with 4.25" backspacing. think I would have front end issues? what do you guys think?
wow strange looking truck?? when did they build that one?

should look good....a 255/60R17 would be .3" taller than a 235/75R15, a 245/60R16 would be ~.3" shorter..... for the back, 275/60R17's would look right, and are about 30" tall... are you afraid the 4.25" backspace won't be enough? I wonder if you could use LX wheels, which are 5x115mm bolt pattern (vs. 5x114.3mm) and +24mm offset on the 18x7.5" rims (which would be ~5.2" backspace) because these are sharp looking cheap OEM wheels http://moparonlineparts.com/advanced_sea...n_description=1and LX's have tire sizes that would look right on a 70's truck....a 235/55R18 is ~28.1" tall

I think it would look great! I am a cheapskate, plus I really liked these, so I went this way. These are 17x8, '03-04 Ram. $100 for the set. These have a 5 1/2" backspace, and my factory steelies were 4", and with a 255/70/15 rubbed the rear inner well some. I would have used a 1 1/2" spacer, at the time couldn't find one. I wanted hub centric specifically. So, I got 2". This moved the sidewall pretty close to the outer fender lip, bed is not perfectly centered, so some adjustment may cure this problem, or roll the lip. Both only needed if lowering, and carrying weight. On front I went with 1" spacer, to me is seems perfect, so 4 1/2" backspacing. A couple inner fender bolts will be replaced with button heads, but only again if I lower it. Tires are 275/60/17. What I saved on wheels, after buying spacers and modifying them, I could have bought a set of cheap Summit wheels, but I like these much better. Obviously on yours the bolt pattern/hub hole would be correct and spacers/adapters not needed. To summarize, I think the 4 1/2"back space MIGHT be a problem on the rear. I didn't try the 1" spacers on the back, I think it would be iffy on the inside.
It takes gasoline to interest me.

Yes, 275/60/17. At stock height, plenty o clearance. And I think they will be fine at a couple inches lower, which is all I want. Not sure if these will show you anything ...

265-75-17 tires on 17 x 9 factory SST wheels. Plenty of sidewall , just what I wanted. Factory tire size for these wheels is 275-60-17 , even those are too short for me. Frank

Yeah thats it, they don't look to big at all to me, looks good. Im working on a 84 D series, single cab short bed and was kinda of wanting bigger wheels than the 15's but im thinking of a wheel that might stick out maybe a 1/4" to 1/2" more than yours tops, You think they would still clear aright?
