I have a setup somewhere at the other garage. Its transistorized and runs to spark plugs in the tail pipes.Took it off one of the sons friends cars.It worked pretty good when he had it hooked up.Other than that I have no idea.Rocky

ok because I seem to have spark at the plug in the exhaust, and when I push the the switch it kills spark to the engine. I'm assuming, here is the part where theory and realty don't seem to work together, that the motor is pumping fuel and gas into the exhaust and the spark plug is suppose to fire the mixture in the exhaust?
You're supposed to rev up the engine, THEN push the button to deactivate your ignition and activate the spark plug at the tail pipe. Keep your foot firewalled and the carb will dump raw fuel into the engine. The still spinning engine will push that raw fuel into the exhaust and the plug near the tail pipe will ignite the gasses.
I've seen it done on a 6-cylinder Hudson!

this is what I have seen and what my son had on his jeep.
what i dont get is how in the movies they light the pipes and blow flames as the drive off.
IIRC the movie grease and Macon County Line have the cars doing it.
grease was the black led sled and MCL was a yellow 57 chebby.
If I was to have one I would want to light it as I drove off from a stop light.
anyone know how this kind of flamethrower work?

I'm going to try a different direction and try wiring it like this... Well the jumper did not allow the the ignition to cut out so I removed it.

Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first.
Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

killing the engine with the RPM up and the throttle wide open seems like the lazy way to do it to me.... if one REALLY wanted to do this, why not just plumb a nitrous jet to the exhaust with an auxiliary fuel pump, when you want to light them off, hit a button...activate the NOS solenoid (no funny gas, just gasoline) you get fuel to spray into the exhaust near the tips, and a spark plug to light it off. that way you can keep your engine running, you don't kill your rings with raw gas washing away the oil, and you get to throw flames while driving away.

maybe later on this one... I have solenoids and such but a little afraid of showering fuel on the truck and having it ignite... afterwards!

Pfffft!! I had a 70 Buick that would do this without ANY mods... Sorta like the Uncle Buck car... but with fire.
