I would like to know if any one has old tech info on Mopar spoilers?
I remember years ago in HotRod they were showing the wind tunnel testing from Chrysler when Mopar came out with the shoe box hood scoop, they showed all the Mopar hood scoops of the time and it was very interesting.
So I am looking for any info on the mopar style spoilers, especially T/A front and rear.
I don't think the front T/A spoiler does much but it would be cool to find out.
I would also hate to find out that there is no benefit at all when bolting on the Mopar spoilers.

I would think they won't do much at normal highway speeds but you gotta admit they look great.
Hope you find the info your looking for.

The problem is, you need to define "benefit" first, such as less drag, more downforce, better radiator airflow, less wind noise, etc. And as already stated , speed will drastcally change all the above factors and their benefits

Clean air and down force over the rear spoiler, low pressure under car helping with handling and cooling.

? ok so get on the freeway and stick your arm out the window with your palm facing down, then then turn your palm facing forward and when the wind wraps your arm backwards tell me does the airflow matter? it does'n take much surface area to have an effect on drag or down force!

so you say that the force I feel on my hand will push around a 3000 plus lb car?

I heard a story that the Sbird/Daytona wings didnt do much tiil around 100 MPH,, but at 200 MPH they produced 600 FT LBS of down force..
.

The square inches of your hand is a lot smaller than the area of a car, but at the same speed the drag per square inch would be exactly the same.

I heard the old DC spoilers for Dusters actually slowed them at the track.

I put this old American Racing aluminum unit on my 79 Magnum years ago. This was a 1 owner car....me...and from day one, she had a squirm to it on the hiway. Always felt like the back end was light. This is a GT...sway bars front and back too. (The photo shows her after we had to remove the flares due to rust damage).

Bolted on the wing, and a few tweaks to the angle of attack, and all of a sudden the car handled like a dream.

The first blast over 100 mph proved it worked....I ended up with permanent dimples in the trunk lid....lol.

I've since had to scrap my 79, but we kept all the good parts. The wing is going on my son's 78, because, guess what? It handles the same way my 79 first did.

To the OP, yes they can. but mostly at higher speeds. Cleaning up/smoothing out the undercarrage is a big deal, most new cars have plastic panels to accomplish this. Rear wings usually work at higher speeds, but testing and road time are important. Most of the ones off the shelf are a waste of time and money.

This one really made a difference in holding down the front end. The Chally used to get very light in the front over 100mph. Added this in front and a TA spoiler in the rear and at 140, it is still very stable.

Let me clarify:
1. The first point I think was the small amount of force your hand generates when stuck out in the windstream of a moving car.
2. my point was any moving car at the limits of adhesion takes very little force to move it, hence my example of pushing on the rear of a car during a burnout can redirect the cars angle very easily
3. And therefore a spolier that adds any downforce will help prevent a car losing control
4. And mainly, the poster who asked how could a spoiler push a 3,000lb car around, assuming the car is at its adhesion limits, requiring the need for a spoiler.
Make sense?

Which track !!!

Its a give and take thing. A spoiler might well slow you down on a straightaway but the downforce will allow you to go through the corners faster. So yeah, on a drag car you probably want to toss the spoiler but on a track car you want it there. Daily driver ... mostly there for looks!

Chrysler did extensive research into spoiler usage for all phases of motorsports from drag racing to super speedways to trans am. Net result was that spoilers begin producing results at speeds as low as 65 mph. They also increase drag as a by product of force generation, so it becomes a trade off off on what the final goal is.

I'm sure someone can produce some of the technical papers written by mopar engineers over the years. I've seen them and know they are out there on the web. They are good reading because they specifically address some of the smaller spoilers used within SCCA rule limitations and the resulting research that is also applicable to more street oriented applications.
