Changed the rocker back to 1.75 and put the 6.17 gears back in. Needs gear with the powerglide. Car ran 5.88 @ 119 in the 1/8. First pass put car in neutral after crossing the 1/8 and coasted to a 9.85. So License passes will not be a problem.
Got new tires for the car which should help the 60 ft times.

The rockers sold with the engine were too short. This is what broke the motor. I had longer rockers just higher ratio. Bob and I thought it would run better with more camshaft. I later got the correct rockers from Ritter. But, continued trying the 1.9 and 1.85 rockers. After the engine would not run near potential. I decided to put the rockers from Ritter on 1.75 ratio. And the engine ran better.
The seat pressure has not changed with the springs. Grant it I have way more spring than necessary now as they will handle .875 lift and the lift now is only .787. So I may swap springs to get more life now. I would have never got the springs I have now if it had not been for the lift I was told the camshaft had. Once I got the cam specs I saw where that was wrong. Another reason to assume I needed the extra ratio rockers.

Come on Brett give me a break.....
First outing was with the 6.17 gears. Track was slick but the MPH was only 114 at a track that is usually gracious with MPH recordings. Best run that day was a 6.22 burning the tires through low gear.
Put the 4.10's in to test car on street for Drag Week. Car fealt strong so went to the track. Car was absolutely dead in the 60ft. Could have been partly blaimed by the improperly placed dot in the rev limit. But, MPH was only 114. Knew the motor was down on power. So I switched over from 1.90/1.85 rockers to 1.75.
Yesterday 7:30AM decided to go racing put the 6.17 gear back in. 8:15AM filling the rear with grease. This is a DANA 60 mind you. I have complete luck with these two gearsets. Same pinion depth, same shim for pinion preload and same shims on carrier for the same backlash. Makes for a quick gear change.
First pass 117 MPH. The first two outings with two different gear 114 MPH. So I know the rockers made power. Three MPH worth.
I am sure the car will run the MPH with a 4.10 gear it just will not get there as quick. With the program fixed probably looking at 1.45 60 fts to be the best expected. The index races around here are 5.90/5.95 and 6.00. This engine is not going to do it with a 4.10 gear without running Q16 as it is.
I am in full reality of a couple changes that would need to be made to run faster.
First off a 7,800 stall torque converter that actually works. Second a torqueflite tranny. This way I can run a 1/4 mile gear and still have ratio on the starting line. Problem is a tricked out torqeuflite that can handle 9,500 is pretty expensive. Probably looking around $7K in a tranny and converter. Bob ran a purpose built carb for Q16 and ran on Q16. That is fine for going out to proove something. But, if I were out to proove something I would be spraying. I have the APD carb and plan to test Q16 but, can't see doing it on a regular basis.
I initially wanted a large displacement R5P7. XR2 was the plan originally then EEi R5. This engine showed up available so I did this. If I went with an EEI block with a chevy flange crank that would work great with the glide. Then get a Reid bell drilled for the R5 and the adapter dissapears. While I am at it build the EEI 439 with aluminum rods 2" crank pin and .927 wrist pins. Flat top for pump gas and a ring pack that will live without worries. Don't know the price tag but probably less than $10K. And it would be nitrous freindly if I desired spraying.
I still have a 358 longblock to sell after doing this.

Ok, Now that makes sense! I was starting to think you didn't have a plan, just winging it.

This was a flat tappet Cup motor converted to roller. Today is a good day to shop for these. Just saw one on Racingjunk that was a great deal and DaveW has his for sale on Ebay it is at $5,900 right now. Both of these engines had the Bellhousing with them.

I paid more but got a custom Charlies oil pan that fits the car and the engine sits where it should. A front mount distributer. All the fabrication work for the electric water pump and CSR pump. A set of new sheetmetal valve covers and new pistons. A cam ground specific for drag racing. Some of this is not needed. The pan is kinda a must.
I though if I built one with some other parts I have I would make it a single stage wet sump engine to avoid a lot of hassle. The only hard part to this is cutting holes in the enclosed cam tunnel to allow the oil to drain to the pan.
I have a SCP pump that I would use if I put another one of these together for a streeter.

These Iron blocks are no more than 8.8" tall. So you figure from there. If you consider putting a 3.75 crank in it you divide that by 2. That would be 1.875. Now take that from 8.8". That leaves 6.925". So that would allow a 6" rod with a 1.075" compression height piston.

With my current job and getting ready to move the family out to Phoenix...I can't take everything with me. When I sat down and did an inventory of all the parts and cars I have accumulated, I was shocked. Somehow over time I have become like a fat kid sitting in front of a box of Twinkies, a box of Ho-Hos and some Swiss Cake Rolls. Everything I have looks good, can't figure out what to eat first!
