Been thinking about getting exhaust cutouts for a while now, after shipping etc here to England it's going to be quite expensive to get the electronic ones so thinking of just getting manual ones, anyone used the manual ones ? I'm a bit concerned about leaks or are they quite good at sealing ? The ones my local parts place has are these, see link, scroll down to S9/14 , also is there any amount of time they should not be opened up for when driving or is it ok to have them open all the time if I wanted ? We run them on 2 cars.My kid had to replace a cap gasket on his once in about 7 years.Mine have been on for about 8 years still running the OE gaskets.They seal with no problems.I have mine angled towards the outside of the car.Easy to get to the 3 wing nuts to uncap them.I used anti sieze on the threads so they dont rust on.I can uncap mine in a few minutes.Rocky

I use the summit cut-outs. They work great. No issues at all. It takes like 2 minutes a side to uncap them. No need to even jack the car up. I did replace the "wing" nuts w/ standard nuts.

I had my local exhaust shop fab some up from scratch. If you do that, it would save you the shipping charges.

They way I had them do it was to go from my 3" header collector to a 3" diameter cutout that angles to the outside of the car. No issues with sealing.

i just made mine with 2 header collectors welded to a y pipe and made up a cap to match with header collector gaskets and nuts and bolts...easy set up

Patrick had a novel idea of using a vacuum operated normally open switch to open em up when you get on it . That'd sure beat manually uncapping them & as soon as you spot the Gendarmes (English cops?) you can back off (or a manual override switch)

I have bought the QTPs...hopefully with any luck I will have them on before Summer. The Manual ones....those are for guys who hit the track and uncork em...guys like me..I wanna be at a bus stop and flip the switch...and if I see a cop in the distance, close em up. I would also like to wake the dead...as well as the neighbors...If you aren't in a rush I can ask my guys in New York if they ship out directly to the UK. I bring in all my stuff through a cargo ship and its usually quite cheaper than sending it by post and there is less of a chance of it getting stopped at customs. Are you in a car club out there? Perhaps someone knows a broker that can take care of all the paperwork for you. The only other option I can help you out with is if you buy em and have them shipped to New York, I can have them come to my place in Greece (Bit of an overshoot from the UK) but then I can send them through the post from here and being that its within the EU, no customs fees. Just an option.

Maybe hit up this place....place an order with them and their next shipment from the States could include your cutouts and have them ship it to you since they are way closer than me.

Pete, many thanks for the offer but my local place has the manual ones in stock so i'll probably just go for them if I get them

Another thing is where is the best place ideally to fit them, currently my Flowmaster exhaust system end just in front of the rear wheels

Put them between the header collector and the H-Pipe/X-Pipe (whichever you have). Or if you don't have an H-Pipe/X-Pipe, put them relateively close to the end of the header collector.

Get them the same diameter of your header collector, then reduce down to the diameter of the rest of your system.

2.5" QTP's are the way to go. Don't forget to put a short flared end on them. It improves the sound dramatically. I used an oval shaped megaphone end for clearance. It works the same way as the flare on a trumpet or other horn works. It takes the harshness out of it and sweetens it the sound.

Shouldn't the ones I order though be a slight smaller or larger size than my current pipes in order for them to slot over them ? Is it best to weld them ?

You probally have to have them flared.I took mine to the Midas shop and had them use their tool thats hydraulic for flaring pipes.Guy didnt even want ant $$$$.I gave him 10 bucks for his trouble.I welded mine on.Rocky

Not sure what you mean. They bolt on to a header flange. THese are a different brand.

I have manual ones on my Duster and it takes me a minute or two at the track to undo each one, without needing a jack. They've been on the car for years now and have always sealed up great.

I just dont get this idea.

Unless... there is a valve right where the pipe splits into full system/cutout (read: to route the FULL exhaust volume to either the cutout OR the mufflers), is the exhaust not just flowing into both pipes even if its uncorked? Whats the point besides just making more noise? On a personal note, I think they sound terrible, unless you wanna sound like a rez-pickup truck. And they have to be hurting power on any GOOD system.
