I use Hyundai SPIII because it's free and it's synthetic. I don't use a cooler.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I am going to be using a cooler, which I forgot to mention. It seems there are quite a few using Type F...I was going to use dextron or mercon, or even standard ATF, but how come ATF? Is it superior to the other stuff? Just trying to understand to....and now I have to figure out how much I need with my summit deep aluminum transmission pan Thanks!

Thanks for that link! It does help to understand the differences between the type F and the dextron/mercon stuff, but it sure as hell doesn't make the choice any easier.
I would imagine firmer shifts are more desirable? But then again, I am using stock type clutches and a transbrake, so maybe I want something like dextron or ATF 4 instead?
This might come down to the flip of a coin at the parts store lol

Way back at the dawn of time - OK, the early '70s - I worked for the "slippin' twins" (Bob & Don @ B&M), and they'd chuckle about their Trik-Shift fluid, which was actually just Type F repackaged with their label. I've used both Dex and F in the same trans before and couldn't really tell the difference; 10-sec SB/904 Duster footbrake car, basically stock trans with 4400 & later 5800 stall. Upgraded to a CRT 904 with the new/stronger motor, and John said to use Dex, so that's what's in it. I'm currently running F in my '64 Savoy street/strip car, which is a kinda-mild RB/727 3000-stall footbrake car that might run a 12.0, because the 2 trans guys involved on that one like F.

chrysler/mopar AFT-4 is what I use in my 904. red clutches, 4.2 lever 3000 stall. etc. etc. i've also used redline with no difference. atf-4 gets my vote.

All type F except 1qt of Dextron. An old mentor told me this 30 yrs ago that there is an ingredient found in Dextron that is not present in Type F that is required (specified by GM and MoPar) and intended to keep the MoPar seals pliable and properly 'swelled'. So as long as you have some Dextron in the case all stays good and no leaks...FWIW Could be an 'old urban myth' but I remember some places used to sell a 'universal' trans fluid so maybe there are ingredients not in both
