Just went to a cruise in about 45 miles from the house. For the most part 70 MPH highway driving. Run into rain twice. I have no wipers. And the water was puddled pretty bad in the first rain. But, no issues with that. I am trying to get a better tune on the dominator. It is great until the secondaries start to come in. Then it gets rough and the temp wants to climb. Gonna have to work this out somehow. The engine usually uses a little oil on the street. Today it burned nothing. I came back early as the show rained out early. Took a detour over about 20 miles of back country roads. Just a step above dirt. Went to the cookout my family was at. Then came home. All total 100 miles. Then my speedometer quit reading the sender. Should have bought the expensive one from Racepak. Temp will stay at 190 until you get into the secondaries then it wants to get to 205. Down the country roads never got over 180. So some tuning should fix this. Just not sure where to start.

sounds good Leon, need a carb with external linkage that you can change the ratio

did you check your fuel milage?

I thought about that external linkage. It would help as I could just cut the secondary out altogether. The carb Bob had has that but it is a dedicated Q16 carb.

I see guys running high 11:1 compression on pump gas. I wonder if on the street I could get away with a blend of 112/pump. Then really screw with the carb. I am going to get a guess on mileage tomorrow although I noticed the speedometer had quit when I left the cookout. I can figure that in with the GPS.

my BB is 12-1 and ran and raced on 91 but had the timing turned down

Well...
It's 114 now, on it's way to 121 possibly, and I'm out in the carport pulling the engine out of the Valiant. What us Gebhart boys lack in motivation, and foresight, we more than make up for in sheer stupidity!!

Well Billy I don't know if you boys partake in the odd beer but I do. I am going to have one right now for you after reading that post. Still wearing long pants up here. Cheers

Took the car out for a little carb baseline drive, about 10 miles real rich at cruise, 10 to 1. Was pretty hot out,119 where I was. Engine temp good, fuel pressure good. Going to add transfer slot jets and work frombork there

10 to 1 Tony? in 119...you're lucky the car didn't spontaneously combust! I came in at 2pm, took a shower, watched NHRA qualifying, I'll head back out when the Sun drops down. Yes that's a capital S on days like today.

My tuneup is way lean with any load now. Went for a 100 mile drive with a true mixture of roads and traffic. Much like DragWeek, I suppose. The car ran pretty hot as the humidity was 90% and the temp was 84. The temp stayed around 210 while cruise and 210 quickly when pulling hills or accelerating. Was down 2 jet sizes in the carb. So hoping this will help.

I need to do something with this noisy fuel pump. When you stop and everything engine wise gets quite you still hear the fuel pump raising He!!.

But, hey checked mileage. Filled up to 1" below the filler neck before I left and again when got home. The car only too 8 gallons. That is 12.5 MPG and 4 lane highway, two lane highway winding through the hills and Roanoke city traffic. 12.5 MPG. ALL RIGHT.

I got my intake back on yesterday and ran it in the
shop for a hour or so and shut it off each time the
fan came on to let it heat soak... then finally ran
it so the fan would cycle to see the temps... all that
looked real good.. I'm taking it out for a cruise tomorrow
and get it up on the E-way... I pulled the O2 sensor
plug and it had carbon on it so its still rich..
as soon as I get some miles on it and get the exhaust
cleaned out I'll put the O2 sensor in and start checking
the carb.. I'll drop the jets 4 sizes to start with
