'70 Challenger, 440. TTI 2.5" system with X-pipe. Currently have Dynomax Super Turbos on the car. My understanding is they are more restrictive than a straight through muffler like the Ultraflo or Magnaflow. In addition, I have the typical drone in the 1500-2000 rpm range.

Would like a quieter sound so I can hear the radio, have a conversation, and not have to wear earplugs. However, want the badass sound when I stomp on it.

So, what are my options to have a straight through system, no drone, able to have a conversation while cruising, and nice sound when I stomp on it. Don't want the Dynomax VT's because I don't trust moving parts in a muffler. Thanks.

Mine are date coded repro mufflers I bought in 2005 from Josh thru Dale's Cuda Shop. They are very free flowing and do not have a drone to them. I would buy another set in a heartbeat if I needed them!

Wrong.....The Dynomax Super Turbos are some of the least restrictive mufflers, at least in the 2.5 or 3" varieties. Add a resonator farther back to cut the drone.

R.

the mufflers you want to switch to are straight thru design , it's only going to get louder.

What about a straight through muffler with a resonator farther back?

Hemi E bodies had a resonator at the rear of the tailpipe so you could surely go that route with a straight thru canister type muffler or a factory resonator ?

this is the route I was thinking of doing - but I think the resonator is in the front on the hemi e bodies - , round muffler in back - I asked this before - my setup I was contemplating is HP manifolds, 2.5 pipes to ultraflows, over axle to 2.5 round mufflers in stock location to tips - or would this be "too muffled" or restricted - if through a second strait through muffler?

Joe you are right , they call the front muffler a resonator , I look at resonators as round canisters , not oval muffler looking items . is the front resenator on the ebody center in , center out or offset ?

anyway I needed to quiet down my Diesel truck and added a round canister straight thru muffler ahead of the muffler .

My 69 Dart drones , it has the short hemi turbos on it , I'm going to change them out for the longer ones and add an X pipe , might try the X pipe first and go from there.

resonator should be offset inlet center outlet I think - any thoughts on what I described as a setup with 4 mufflers? - Didn't the Silver Bullet use 4 Caddy mufflers? - Not that I'm anywhere NEAR that territory lol!

Your setups looks good , it's what I would do if I had the room in the rear of the dart for resonators .

The Sliver Bullet had dual duals , they Y'd off the header collector to 2 seperate pipes , I don't recall reading what they used for mufflers .

I had a K5 1970 Challenger 440-6 survivor and it had resonators which were about 18" long and were placed just about where the back seat would be, I took them out because I wanted more noise. The car belongs to a mbr here who lives near Detroit

Please let us know what you do and how it turns out. I have the same setup and the drone (at 65mph) is driving me crazy. I am also skeptical of the Dynomax but it sure sounds like the best of both worlds if they really work. My stock install did not have a resonator. I am thinking they thought it was a waste of time on a 318.

or how about just putting some quiet, restrictive mufflers on, then electric cutouts in front of them hooked up to a normally closed vacuum switch? vacuum applied (cruise) and you have no power going to them, and exhaust flows through the mufflers, stomp on it, vaccuum drops to 0, you get electrical current which opens the cutouts?

ding ding ding I do believe we have a winna. I'd be pricey but what here ain't & It'd sure be effective
