You have to look at all of the varibles.

Those are the small 1 5/8" primary tube. That is pretty small for a 440. A mild build 440 should have at least a 1 3/4".

I have a 523 stroker that I am vasolating between 1 7/8--2" as they are exactly double the price for the 2"

When you get into the 1 7/8--2" is where you have the fit problem at the steering box. Not hard to clear the steering with the puny 1 5/8" primary tube.

those tri-Y's are for A-bodys. Not sure they are 1 5/8" The summit headers and Heddmans work well.

I take it he's not looking for ever last bit of horse power.

Those Tri-Y's fit perfectly and are easy to install. They don't trap anything. No ground clearance problems of any kind. Quality is very good. I heard they are manufactured by TTI but only sold through Schumacher. Great for a "cruiser". They also add a nice sound when standing on the go pedal.

If you want quality, easy install and looks...them be the ones. I'm sure they flow a lot better than shorties; and stock exhaust manifolds for sure.

Plus the tri-Y design is beneficial to torque under the torque peak.

It sure does cut down on the amount of physical space taken up by the header.

Thank you all. I now have a lot of info to process. And I do have power steering, but not power brakes. Exhaust valve size is 1.81".

I like those Schumacher Tri Ys. Yes their primaries are small but they go in and out EASY, are built with beefy steel and allow easy starter and plug changes. I bet they flow better than OEM hi perf manifolds- and many run the iron manifolds on built stealthy stock looking engines.


Keep old mopars alive.

I dont think the Tri-Y will make as much power as full lenth headers. But they make more then stock manifolds and if your not worried about every once of performance then you cant beat the Tri-Y's. Ron

Does anyone have any info on what it takes to make the Schumachers work with the factory Zbar,(4 speed) tried to follow the link on their site but couldnt find the info. If its much effort I would probably be better off with a different option.

The Schumacher BB headers are nice and are phased 180 degrees (which is the way I'd do it.) But thier small block set is not 180 for some reason.

bang for the buck the Hooker 1 7/8" are worth the extra $$$ over the Hedman/Summit 1 3/4" mainly since they are both a thicker flange and primary tube gauge. I like to run the hookers with a 3 1/2" slip-fit collector after cutting off the factory (too small) 3". It's an easy job for any competent exhaust shop.

I have that magazine test mule motor Andy built in my car. He had upgraded the cam to a bigger Comp grind. I downgraded back to the 528. What a great cam (gave Andy the Comp cam back). I have TTI's on my Challenger and am going back to manifolds with big headpipes. Headers are a pain cause even the TTI's rust and look like crap. IF someone made SS headers I'd be all over that but I don't have the time or $ to have a custom set made. I'd even go for some SS shorties

I've been running Schumacher Tri-Y's now for about 10 years with ceramic coating. They look as good today as they did when I had them coated. Maybe not as shiny, but still looking good. They have kindda turned to a satin silver.

for the price schumacher and TTI charge, they should be at least 409 stainless.....304 stainless polishes up nice, but has it's own issues when used in headers. it'll thermal fatigue and crack. my boss had that issue on 2 pair of headers on his 454 truck....

Dougs. All of the features that TTI offers but less money. Plug access is amazing, you can R&R the starter without touching the headers, thick tubes and flanges, I'll post pics when I get home
