I took off the 3.5 straight pipe with bullets and put on 3" with X pipe and dynomax mufflers and just went for a ride and it feels downright nasty

Honesty, I am not one of those butt meter guys and I don't want to get my expectations up but its just hard not to be excited being able to hear the stereo now and it just feels like a bad mofo now

I also have cutouts off the fenderwell headers just incase I'm being fooled

Well, we all want something for our $. With the butt meter test, you can't lose. I know lots of guys that run 9's with a butt meter.

I like how you went straight back with the collector
and took the full exhaust to the inside... wise move

that is a kit from jegs. I thought it would be perfect. I dont have much ground clearance because it had to snake under the ladder bar cross member and also the frame connectors

it will be interesting to do some back to back tests opening the collectors

I am very glad I went to a 3" system with the X-pipe when I put my 493 in my 63. I use the TTI 3" system and Ultra-Flow mufflers with the tailpiles out to the rear bumper. I love it as I can cruise and listen to my radio with no problem and it sounds great to me. Only gets real noisey when I lay into it. I did not put cutouts in mine as I like to race thru the pipes like I drive it. I have never uncapped it but dont know if it would go much faster anyway. Glad yours worked out good for you. Ron

Ron, any drone with the 3" system? Heard its a problem. I'm trying to decide between the 2.5" and 3" system for the Bee.

Looking for the original block for my Bee. The last 4 are 7449

I have no drone at all with the pipes going all the way to the back of the car like this. Thats why I am glad I did not just do turn downs at the rear. Its just much nicer driving with the full lenth tailpipes on the car and no drone at all like this. On the old eng I had turn downs at the rear and it would give a drone at idle in gear some. None of that at all now. Ron

I've got 2-1/8x34"x3-1/2" headers that dump into 24" long 3-1/2" collectors. From there they go into 3-1/2" pipes with X-pipe into 3-1/2" Ultra-Flows, love the sound. But ever since I made everything up the motor always felt a bit stronger when I dumped the exhaust to go racing.
Last summer when I was dynoing the 605 I made 2 last pulls, one with exhaust bolted up and one with open collectors, just as I runs at the track. The results were jaw dropping;
Open exhaust 852.8hp@5782rpm and 818.4ftlbs.@4818rpm.
Full exhaust attached 735.7hp@5405rpm And 748.5ftlbs.@4274rpm
It lost 117.1hp and 69.9ftlbs. going though what I thought would be a pretty free flowing exhaust.
If I'd had more time I may have tryed fabricating expansion chambers between the collectors and pipes to see what I could gain back.Dave

I was a bit suspicious of the feeling faster thing. It is probably due to the fact that my car is actually slower with less tire spin pinning me in the seat than actually being faster. that's exactly why I'm not a butt meter guy. I once put a 950hp holley on my car and thought it was faster than my sixpack, oh, how I was wrong about that

HEMI's always seem to want a LOT more downstream pipe area than wedge motors of comparable cubes and even head flows. It seems Certain motors seem like they won't fall out of a tree without big pipes, Cleveland Fords and Mitsubishi turbos also come to mind.

Maybe you need to consider running a dual 4" system for that 605.

Bobby; I know pipemax says I need 2-3/8" primary tubes for the 605 and I'm sure a 4" system would pick it up. But....on the street it's near impossible to put it all to the ground anyway. I always drop the pipes at the track. One day I may decide to build a new set of headers sized correctly for the motor but for now I'll focus on dialing in the chassis to handle what I've got now.
The dyno can really be an eye opener for what works and what you think will work.Dave

Very cool Ray! It always feels good to be able to romp on it on the highway and not worry about it being so loud. I'm interested to see how it works at the track.

I should have mine back on the road this weekend. Finally tracked down my noise, lol. Did a lot of work for something simple.
