Can ask what back spacing are you guys are using front and back on a typical E or B-body when when using a 17/18" wheel? factory leaf spring locations.

I run 17/18s on my '69 Bee:

17x8 4.75" BS
18x10 5.5" BS

Unlike others on here, I had a heck of a time finding tires that were wide and tall enough for the rear. I ended up going with a Falken Azenis 295/40/18 on the rear. Side by side with my old 275/16/15s, the new tires are actually a hair taller (and wider of course). In hindsight, I should have just gone with the Nitto 295/45/18s and saved a bundle of $$$, but wanted something super agressive.

I also went with 17s/18s on my Charger. Personally I think 17/18 looks the best on B-bodies at least, the 17" wheel in the rear looks too small.

I bought forged aluminum Centerline Softtails
and Nitto NT555 rubber

The Centerline wheels are made in America, light enough for me, and great looking

Front: 17x7", 4"BS 235/45/ZR17
Rear: 18x9.5", 5"BS 295/45/ZR18

If I did it again I'd definitely go wider up front, probably a 17x8 or 18x8" rim and a 255 or 275 tire.

love the centerlines....gotta watch their website for overstock sales, as regular price on those are too rich for many ($400-650/whl) and you can usually get into a set of overstock 17 or 18" wheels for $260-300/whl

Are these some of their newer billets models? Do they still put the sticker on them that says "not for use in road, sports, or autocross racing". I know teh original Auto Drag, Warrior, and Convo Pros all had these stickers on them, but they were pretty drag race specific wheels.

Just shopping for tires and I notice 17" rubber is significantly cheaper than 18"

Yes and I believe its a Falken raping the consumer, supply and demand thing. I just checked myself and a 275/35/18 is $305 and a 275/40/17 is like $205. You look at other brands and alot of the time its the opposite or the 18s are maybe $30 more per.

Mopar to the bone!!!

Where did you find the best pricing on these? Best I've found so far is discount tire direct?

That is where I found them,$610 a pair. I paid $400 a pair for my NT555s a couple years ago. Those Falkens are over priced because they are the current go to tire for the Goodguys events where hundredths of a second matter.

I was all set to go with 17x8 rims until I looked at tire choice. There is not a lot of choices in the 98load needed for an e body.
If I go with 245/45/18 will they fit in a stock ebody (It puts the total height of the tire about an inch higher than stock).
Anyone running this combo in stoch suspention?
I dont want to go to a 40 series tire since I dont like the small sidewall.
Thanks

there's a number of 235/55R17 and 255/50R17 tire choices out there that'll work good....

I went with the Ford SN-95 2004 Mustang "Bullit" wheels, got em from Craigslist for 400 bucks for all 5 (1 spare for long road trips), I plan on driving cross country. The cost factor was what made me decide on 17's but I agree with Cass and others,, 18's are "ideal" I also am using the AR/Eng. Big Brake kit(Viper 13" rotors with 11.75 rear rotors) and Dr. Diff Dana 60 built with .75 greater width for the Bullits. I am using a Nitto 555 tire.(Re-inforced K-Frame, sub frame connectors, torque boxes)

What size Nitto tires are you running?

245/45/ZR17's I went a bit on the conservative side. After I get the car up and running, I'll probably go with the next size up or 2. I think I may need as big of a reasonable contact patch as I can get. The engine I built makes good power and has a 'flat' torque curve with a manual trans.

Thanks Mitch! I will definitely try and make it! I would love to bring my 72, but I need to get that Keisler 700 SS 5-Speed! Ive been reading ConvertibleBee's post on his 700 SS install and Ive spoken to Jamie Passon on his 5-speed box. Man, whew! I really want a modern internal rail shifted gearbox and saw the 700 SS at a local racers trade show a few months ago. It looked beefy! But Jamies A-855 looks sweet too! I have the funds, but the availability/installation issues are holding me up. If I get the trans by May, I should be able to get the rest of the car together in time. I will keep you posted and thanks again for heads-up! Eddie
