Mopar Mitch,
I intend to make the car just for me. Mostly a toy to make me happy. Not looking to fit into a class. I guess my two biggest concerns are looks and brake size. I am a big believer in stellar brakes and superb shock control. BUT i'm just not sure about the look of the skinny sidewall setups. Over the last 2 years I have had a change of heart about the rim diameter and have been liking the larger sizes more and more. You have already convinced me to go with more t-bar. I pay attention to what you have been preaching on here. Thanks!

Cass,
You have already given me a quote based on some info I provided and one of my limitations was a 17" wheel. Have been looking for info on the Viper caliper and Charger rotor package you have put together. Not sure though if it's hit the shelves yet? Thing is now i'm considering removing the 17" limitation and getting a 14" rotor package from you when I order the diff and brakes from you, You will be getting my business!

I'd love to be able to stuff a 335 tire in their. Just trying to figure it all out including looks. Car is going to shop at end of January for a bunch of welding to the unibody and installation of sub frames, torque boxes, fender stiffeners, lower radiator brace, K frame mods, etc. Fender lips already have been rolled. If i need to it will be getting mini tubs as well. Just not sure if I need them for a 335 when I get the right BS, diff length and spring relocation setup. I appreciate everyones thoughts and knowledge.

The problem is the 275/40/17 I believe is only factory in Gen 4 1995 to 2002 Camaro SS, Firebird WS6 models , and on the front of early Gen I Vipers.

Also available on Mustangs (OEM on the 03/04 Cobra's). That alone should keep them available for a long time...

Right now I'm thinking of using 17s for AutoX and step up to 18s for the street. Next year 15s won't fit my brakes.

I run 245/45-18 up front and that's borderline for sidewall height. Anything shorter would be out of place on an old car. My feelings are mixed about being this short. 18" wheels were mandatory due to the brakes. Clearance is feeler gauge tight.

The rears are 295/45-18 but it's a hard size to find. They were factory tires on some year Ford Lightnings. Not many tire manufacturers make them and not all of them have a matching front tire. That's how I ended up with Nittos.

I think the over all product looks fairly nice.

This is how I see it.

15" Wheel choices are great, Tire choices SUCK

16" Neither wheel or tire choices are very good, but its a great looking wheel size, and wide 50 series would provide a good OA diameter.

17" Good wheel choices, limited tire choices. 45 and lower series ($$$) become mandatory if wide rubber is desired.

18" Good wheel and tire choices, Cost ($$$) is rising fast. The unwanted "DONK" term is sometimes present in mind and vernacular.

Aesthically speaking I think 16's and 17's look the best. Too bad they are not better supported by manufacturers.

It has a 3 or 4 link rear suspension so no leafs.
Rear 295/45/18
front 245/45/18

I saw it at Carlilse 2 or 3 years ago. It was a nicely done car.

I have 17s on my challenger. IMO for big wheel to look good you need 3 items.
1. Wheels with dish. High positive offset wheel looks out of place on old cars.
2 Tires with sidewall. At least a 45 series.
3. Car lowered as much as possible.

For 18s I would go with 295/45 rear and 255/45 front.

Here is a picture of my 72 Roadrunner I know not an E body....

The wheels on there are Vintage Wheel Works 16 x 8
http://www.vintagewheelworks.com/products/wheels/v48/16x8

Tires are 255/50ZR16 BF Goodrich Sport Comp 2's
This is an OEM tire for C4 Corvettes
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/tire-sele...#techspec_table

At tire rack they are $550 for a set of 4. I have a full size spare in the trunk of the Runner.

For 2K there is a set of 4 wheels and tires plus a matching wheel and full size spare in the trunk.

I highly recommend 18s for a couple reasons. Tire selection is pretty common these days in 18s, 275/35,285/30,295/30,35,40, 335/30 were very common sizes on Z06,ZR1 and Vipers. The trend now is turning toward a 19" rear wheel on the Supercars with the new Viper using a fricken 355/30/19 rear! Another reason I chose an 18 is tierod clearance so I can run a 9" wide on the front with 6" bs and not hit the tierod. That is a huge factor to me and doesnt require so damn much critical wheel selection on an A body.

any idea who makes the 18" wheels on the white challenger? year one has the rally wheels in aluminum but only list 17", i know foose makes them in 17-20" but they are way to rich for my blood.

Maxxis Marauader is a newer tire on the market currently. Their distribution network is predominately motorcycle shops, so you'll need to search to find them. Sizes are available in 14-18 in rim sizes with widths from 205 to 295. This is the only other widely available H speed rated tire out there next to the MT SR. For guys wanting a taller sidewall with 17-18 inch rims, they have plenty of offerings in 55-70 aspect ratios.

Depends on the wheel...

My 18" x 10" rears are under 19 pounds each. I wouldn't call that heavy at least.

245/45ZR17 95W
255/40ZR17 94W
255/45ZR17 92W

285/35ZR18 97W
285/40ZR18 101W
295/45ZR18 112W

The W rating is far superior to H ratings in all areas except tire life. Don't expect them to wear as long as the ancient BFG Radial TA but the performance difference more than makes up for it.
Besides, how long does it take most of us to rack up 20,000 miles on an old Mopar?

They have an NT555R that is built for drag racing.

The NT555RII is built for road racing but is only available in 285/35ZR18 and 305/35ZR18.

The NT01 is a DOT approved road course competition tire. Sizes are limited to the following:

205/40ZR17
215/45ZR17
225/45ZR17
235/40ZR17
