Can't forget about the Emax Challenger. I believe they are 19's:
I'm pretty sure they are 18's. Maybe just in front. Dan answered that question on here recently.
The wide tire selection in 17" is disappearing.
I'd follow Mitch Lelito and/or Emax Challenger tire fitments.
A 275/40/17 on a 17x9 will fit the front of a challenger. Can go wider in back. This is with a very lowered car.
I stuck with the 17" rims for both weight and price. The price of tires 18"+ get pretty pricey. Personally I wouldn't go any bigger than 18"

Just checked and you're correct. They're 18's, but I know for a fact the ones on the Cuda are 19's.

Really wow that sucks. I'm planning on ditching my 15" rims because of tire selection and was planning on 17" up front and 18" out back. Maybe I should go 18" all around?

We live in a time when tire manufacturers are being saddled with an ever changing catalog of diameters from 13 to 22 inchs and a wide range of widths. As such, picking up a very specific tire size that is maximum for your car but has a very limited penetration of buyers on the market means that size will eventually go away and be replaced by some other diameter, width, apsect ratio tire.
IMO, whether going 17,18, or 19, I'd stick with sizes that were widely available on and offered by the OEMs on their performance vehicles. Tires that need to be continually produced to support 100s of thousands of OEM cars will continue to be available for a much longer time than any specialty, boutique sized rubber.

That is what happened to me with the 245/50/15 tire. NO car was delivered from the factory with that size.
The problem is the 275/40/17 I believe is only factory in Gen 4 1995 to 2002 Camaro SS, Firebird WS6 models , and on the front of early Gen I Vipers.

They came on Corvette too I believe Steve...
(We've used tons of 275/40-17's in Oz and still around in a few different brands here. But we are mainly going with 18" stuff on things too, that is the main size of outers and centers I've bought lately in the larger stuff)

Forgot about Corvettes. What years? Were they front, rear, or both.

I don't remember off hand....but have seen them on them (on the rear at least that is) I've had a few SS Camaros around so those stick in mind more though. And I run a 265/35-18 on the rear of the Torana...think that is a factory size on some models of 911. Going to swap to 295/30-18 though (at least) since I have plenty of room width wise out back.

MoparDamo... what are your intentions with the 71 Chall... street/hwy only? ocasional autocross/road course? Perhaps you could consider having more than one set of rims pending the duty with the car???
For current street/hwy driving, I'm running vintage mini-lites 15x8 (BFG T/A 245-60-15 ft, 275-60-15 rr.. these certainly aren'y considered "hi-perf" tires, but they satisfy my "street/hwy" needs as well as allow the "vintage" view.
For my "competition" driving (solo/autocross), I've had 16x10 and have run 255-50-16 BFG comp T/A R1 soft compound, and Hoosier 255-50-15 bias-ply, and now Hoosier A6 275-45-16 race DOT radials. SINCE my 16x10 rims are already "paid-for" many years ago (when the 16s were hotly introduced mid~late 80s, I'm keeping them with choices remaining Hoosiers race radials 275-45-16s, and BFG extreme summer performance 255-50-16s.. and a few other companies offering 255-50-16s.
I'm considering a set of the new Mopar Rally 17x9 (sold by Year One) and then run a set of 275-40-17 with many available tire brands offering that particular size tire (Hoosier, BFG, etc, etc). OR else, even getting a set of 17x9 or 9.5 or 17x11 (with custom backspacing) so to run 315-35-17 tires, in particular in the rear.
In my opinion, at this point in time, the 275-40-17 is the most common size available in such a "step-up" from the 15s, as well as realtively affordable amongst differnt brands in cost-competition. BUT, be prepard for a little noticable harsher ride having shorter sidewalls... with benefit of quicker transient steering response!
18, 19, 20?? Cost goes up for tires and rims, sidewall becomes less, potential rim damage increases, steering transient response increases, advanced technology more so for such sizes, consideration to re-think suspension sprong stiffnesess... what about any "club" rules for rim sizes/softness/tread-weare ratings? The 17's could still be, at this time, the best choice... 17x9 (5" b/s) with 275-40-17 tires is my current "best buy" combination (E/Specially for E-bodies... without making any radical suspension mods at all, not even making fender lip mods!).... ~$800 for the 17x9 rims (Mopar Rally from Year One as a choice).. about ~$800~$1200-$1400 for choice of tires.
Aren't these items on your "gift list"?

my 15x8 rims with 245-60-15 front, 275-60-rear (I intend to switch the fronts to 255-60-15 and still keep the 275-60-15 rear.)

Gregsrt, those look nice, any tire clearance issues up front? Looks pretty tight? I wonder how those would work on a Duster?
