Thinking of Putting LA style heads on a Magnum Block. (Airwolf 220s)

I know the Magnum Block can be drilled for Shaft oiling.

BUT would push-rod oiling be better or just as good?

Who makes new shaft rocker set-up for LA heads? Preferably in 1.7:1 ratio.

Do the rockers need anything special for PushRod oiling???

I use TD rockers...the one thing you need to make
sure of is that a oil through PR rocker has the oil
hole in the cup to push oil to the rest of it... some
rockers that shaft oil have a hole that points towards
the cup so that wouldnt work with PR oiling

Thanks Mr P Body!!

I was hoping to find something a little cheaper than the T&Ds. Got those for my W9RP heads and know they can also be had with through arm oiling to the valve stem.

Trying to get a BEST BANG for the BUCK on this engine and not go overboard. Already did that with another engine I have.

If that's the Only real option I may reconsider another head Option I was contemplating because that drives the price close to what I was quoted for the other heads.

There may be other companies as well but just make
sure it has the hole(in pic)

Thanks again!!

Will do.

That was exactly the reason I asked. I knew with shaft oiling it had to be oiling the shaft and rocker arm from the inside as well.

Converting over to Push-rod oiling with a set of standard LA shaft rockers wouldn't get oil inside the rockers and shaft.

I'll look around and see what I can find. Pretty sure Jesel probably does to but the price would be about the same.

Manton makes the rocker arm adjusters for pushrod oiling, use AMC style lifters are they are also designed for pushrod oiling.

Ive seen many early to mid nineties magnum blocks with galleries to the heads. Use the appropriate cam bearings and your set.

Just by changing to a oil through type adjuster doesnt
mean it will work... the rocker has to have the holes
in it to move the oil to the other areas... alot
of the shaft style rockers have a hole thats under
the rocker arm that squirts towards the cup area...
if you have that type you would need to change that
or it wont work

I was told that you could use standerd LA heads and stock rockers & shaft without doing any drilling. I was going to use a magnum block with it's roller cam & lifters in my 87 dakota because of the motor mounts issue and the LA intake is cheaper and I can run factory A/C and all the brackets. Also if I do the cov. what push rods I use?

Push rods will be determined by the springs... if
you have strong springs and high ratio rockers you
need bigger PRs... at least wall thickness or diameter...
larger diameter is lighter with equal strength...
so when you figure out what you will run then talk to
the PR company

It is stock springs and rockers. It is going to be a daly driver. The v6 has no power and gets crappy milage, the v8's did better in a small truck.

Yeah being a V6 you had to press on the pedal alot more
to get them going.... if its on the E-way most of the
time they could get better mileage if you kept the
speed lower but at 75-80 it has to much frontal area

Oil the rockers externally similar to Indy BB heads. Accessory holes line up with rocker shaft bolt hole. Re-drill and tap the accessory hole that lines up with rocker bolt hole to 1/4 pipe, but only as deep as original hole. Then drill rest of the way through, to the rocker bolt hole, aiming the drill bit, 1/16", at the rocker bolt hole until it breaks through. Then you make a custom rocker shaft bolt by drilling from the bottom up, deep enough to to be even with center of shaft, and another hole through the side of bolt even with center of shaft. Oil will go through the bolt into the shaft. Also use a grade 8 bolt. And if using cast iron heads I open the rocker bolt holes to 3/8x16. Can't do the 3/8x16 on eddys because of heli-coils. I also restrict oil by plugging and redrilling a .04 hole in the inlet fitting to each head. I do this even with LA heads on LA block.

This a stocker. Do I still have to drill oil holes or can I get away without it?

If your block is drilled like a old style(early mag
blocks) no you dont need any of it.. but if you dont
have the hole for oiling then use PR oiling BUT you
need the proper rocker set up
